Take a look at Casa Sanchez, we spent New Year's there and loved it

+ 1 for Portes 9. Excellent location and no better value that I was able to find in Zona Colonial. Inexpensive, comfortable and clean rooms. Only issue, there's no parking. And the hotel is on a peatonal so no street parking either.
I like Nicolas de ovando ..they have parking ..very nice rooms...great breakfast buffet and a very nice restaurant
Hotel El Conde de Penalba. Great location in Columbus Square across from the Old Church and walking distance to everything in the Zone. This is a nice old colonial hotel with a large outdoor cafe for drinks and food and people watching. The rooms have a/c and reasonably priced at around $75 usd. Ask for a room with a balcony. I have stayed there a number of times and the people there are very nice. Good luck and good travels.
No doubt there are many excellent hotels in the CZ. We've stayed at Palacio and only have great things to say about it. I really like being surrounded by 500 years of history and all that old wood...
I like having 10mb wifi that works at almost top speed in pretty much every single room I've stayed in, and is included in the room rate.
