Casa Marina Beach Club

We are planning a trip to the DR and to stay at the Casa Marina Beach Club. We want all the fun but want a quiet hotel room (away from the night life and disco). Any suggestions on what type of room we can request? Facing the ocean, pool, or garden and what floor to stay on? Also how was the all inclusive food and bars? Was there a bar and or restaurant right on the beach and was it all inclusive or cash? Any other helpful information?

I stayed at the Casa Marina last year and had a wonderful time. The food wasn't that bad at the central dining hall and there are other restaurants on the grounds if you wish a more intimate dining experience. You will never be far from a bar but expect to pay extra for "name" liquor. I found the local rum to be exquisite. There are poolside rooms and fewer oceanview ones. If you stay poolside, you may prefer a room that opens right onto the pool. The resort is safe and there is an armed guard at the entrance gate to insure the safety of the residents. However, the beach and compound are open to the public so expect to be approached by people selling hats, jewelry, etc. Usually a polite, but firm "No gracias" or "No quiero" will suffice and then cut off eye-contact. "No tengo dinero" sometimes works better. The compound is definitely more laid back than town and you can take a nice stroll along the rocks at night. If you want to break out and chack out the local scene the is a casino and several discos and eateries and bars available. If you're just chillin' - enjoy! And make use of the safe for your valuables for peace of mind.
