DR gets Best Destination Award at Top Resa
The Dominican Republic won the Best Destination Award issued by Magazine Tour MAG during the International French travel Market (IFTM) Top Resa held 20-23 September 2016 in Paris.

Participants competed in 15 categories and the winners were chosen by travel agents in two rounds of voting, based on tourists? preferences.

More than 12,000 travel agents voted the Dominican Republic as "Best Long-Haul Destination," confirming French tourists? preference for the Dominican Republic.

The director of the Ministry of Tourism office in France, Mercedes Castillo received the award on behalf of the Dominican Republic.

Deputy Tourism Minister Fausto Fernandez, who heads the Dominican delegation at Top-Resa, described the win as extraordinary. He said it confirmed Dominican Republic?s great popularity as a destination for Europeans and the work being done by the tourism office. "We must continue to work hard for the destination and the country's future by continuing its sustainable tourism."

During the celebration of the 30th Annual National Association of Hotels & Tourism Trade Show that took place at the Barcel? B?varo Convention Center in Barcel? B?varo Beach in Punta Cana earlier in September, several hotels and tourism-related businesses received awards for their outstanding performance in international rating organizations.

Asonahores executive vice president Andr?s Marranzini Grull?n said that the trade show brings together the tourism and hotel sectors. The awards were presented by Marranzini and Asonahores marketing director Thelma Martinez.

The Colonial Gate 4D Cinema in the Colonial City of Santo Domingo was commended for its award-winning film The Battle of Santo Domingo.


PAWA to start SDQ-MIA flight in November
PAWA Dominicana is starting flights to Miami International Airport on 16 November 2016. The Miami-Santo Domingo route is currently served by American Airlines.

This will be PAWA?s first flight to territorial United States. It already flies to Puerto Rico from Santo Domingo's Las Americas International Airport (SDQ) as well as to Aruba, Antigua, Havana, St. Maarten, Curacao and Port-au-Prince.

The carrier announced two daily nonstop flights. The airline is using MD-83 aircraft with capacity for 160 passengers.

Santo Domingo is fast becoming a trending Caribbean destination, with the newly renovated Colonial City and the Pol?gono Central restaurant and shopping area where several new hotels have opened in the past three years. They include a Holiday Inn, Embassy Suites, JW Marriott and Intercontinental.


Discover Puerto Plata MarketPlace 2016
This year, Discover Puerto Plata MarketPlace is being held 5-7 October at the Iberostar Costa Dorada in Puerto Plata. Now in its fifth year, the trade show brings together buyers from 20 countries around the world to learn about what is new, what the north coast has to offer and what is happening in Puerto Plata.

The event, which is organized by the Puerto Plata Tourism Cluster, receives sponsorship from the Ministry of Tourism and the Puerto Plata tourism industry.

The US media are spreading the news of a new special place for kids in the Punta Cana area.

Time Magazine published a feature on the new Nickelodeon Hotel and Resort in Punta Cana, describing its cartoon-perfect SpongeBob SquarePants replica suites ? a two-bedroom freestanding structure with its own pool.

The Pineapple Villa does not come cheap. Rates start at US$3,800 a night for up to four adults and two kids.

If the budget doesn?t stretch to the Pineapple Villa, guests can opt for rooms at the Nickelodeon-themed resort for US$375 a night per person.
