The Santo Domingo Hotels Association (AHSD) is holding a major fair and conference, Santo Domingo Capital City Destination 2016 at the Crowne Plaza Hotel on Thursday, 3 November 2016. 140 international tour operators are expected to attend the event.

During the conference, Santo Domingo?s attractions will be highlighted and promoted as a city with new and renovated hotels, countless restaurants, cultural activities and shopping, according to promotion director Doina de Campos.

Speakers at the event will also address the advantage Santo Domingo has as a Caribbean hub and its many connections to all of the Americas. Archbishop Francisco Ozoria promotes religious tours
Minister of Tourism Francisco Javier Garc?a recently visited the southeastern province of San Pedro de Macor?s accompanied by new Archbishop of Santo Domingo, Monsignor Francisco Ozoria to explore a joint initiative for promoting religious tourism in San Pedro de Macoris, Hato Mayor and La Altagracia provinces in the east.

The plan is to organize a Religious Tour Route in the East starting at the San Pedro Apostol Cathedral in San Pedro de Macor?s. Other stops would be Sabana de la Mar in the province of Hato Mayor with a visit to the Se?orita Elupina Cordero Sanctuary. The route would also include a visit to the Santuario de San Dionisio in central Higuey and the Basilica Nuestra Se?ora de la Altagracia. *The Virgen de la Altagracia celebrations are held on 21 January, with a separate symphony concert in mid-January and in mid August (15 August) every year.

Minister Garc?a toured the eastern provinces with newly appointed Santo Domingo Archbishop Francisco Ozoria, who is the former archbishop for San Pedro de Macor?s.

?We have spent the day touring each place, assessing its potential, and what it represents in the religious culture of Dominicans,? said Garc?a. Monsignor Ozoria said that there was much to offer in terms of religious tourism in that area.
