I don't live right in Detroit, but a suburb... Just as an FYI I live in Oakland county one of the richest and most expensive in the US...Have you ever heard of Bloomfield Hills? No firebirds here...
The reason I live here is because of my job, with one of the largest consulting firms in the world...You may have heard of it...if you know anything about IT consulting...

<img src = "http://photos.yahoo.com/bc/suarezn518/lst?.dir=/Car">

Saleen Mustang....Have you ever heard of it?

Yep....you can't feel this....

I think if your car was such a baja panty you'd spend more time doing that and less time in front of a computer reading posts and attacking people...

You can try to paint it as "Well it's expensive here in the DR..." Well...in the DR almost any car is expensive...it doesn't mean it's not a chopo car.

I would very much doubt that it costs $50,000. Here are the latest prices. So even assuming that you have the 2002 model...which I know you don't, because you've been talking about it for a while...and assuming you have the hooked up convertible model...which again you probably don't for fear of getting it stolen in the DR you would still be about $20,000 off your estimate...OK...maybe you paid some money to bring it into the DR, but I'm sure it wasn't $400,000 pesos...What year is it by the way?

2002 Firebird Convertible $24,554 $26,835
2002 Firebird Coupe $18,227 $19,920
2002 Firebird Formula $23,666 $25,865
2002 Firebird Trans Am Convertible $29,248 $31,965
2002 Firebird Trans Am Coupe $25,524 $27,895

So as much as it may hurt you, YOU ARE THE BIGGEST CHOPO OF THEM ALL...Maybe you should just embrace the chopo live, instead of trying to deny your true identity...I personally think you'd be a much happier human being

Right now I am a senior completing my degree in Information Systems. I work for one of my professors in his consulting firm. We mostly design and implement systems for financial houses (Goldman Sachs,Citicorp..etc). Which firm do you work for? I received an offer from Anderson Consulting (extremely generous $$) but I am holding off for a bigger and better fish...Goldman.

This is my baby 330xi, bought it back in 2000. Took this picture this summer when I got it back from the bodyshop. I got rear-ended into an altima on my way to work...over 10k in damages, the whole front is practically new. I am giving it to my sister when she gets back from Spain :( I am going to miss it.

Jeez!

The only car that could make a Firebird High-Class is a Mustang. Being a Salleen Mustang just puts it one notch above a Firebird. But not by much! Now if you have a S-7 maybe you can talk.

TW, Just because a car cost $50K it doesn't mean it is not a Chopo-mobile!

I don't know what's the big deal with the cars. I think that as long as YOU LIKE whatever you drive, or can afford for that matter, who cares. Why should you guys be focused on who's got the best car? Be happy with what you drive, whatever that might be, and forget about "your neighbor's ride"...

By the way...nice cars you guys...

I guess you don't know anything about the importing fees that are in place in the DR.....I know lots of people there and they all tell me the same....whatever you car cost.....double it to get it into the countrie! I've been to Bloomfield hills many times (have friends there)and you can also buy low end houses in that area........so whats all the talk about, also you've spent alot of time trying to point out that someone on this here board has a cheap car. Everybody here trying to "look" like they are richer than thier brother......big fu**in deal. As long as I can afford my kids schooling....a coupla presidente's once or twice a year, than I'm comforable....(oh ya and as long as my car starts in the winter mornings!)Chill out everyone!!!!!!

A car does not define who a person is or isn't...and if you feel it does than that's a person who lacks personality. There's a lot of talk about who has what and who lives where on this board and it does seem that some people can only identify themselves by what they own. I think Suarezn was just trying to prove a point, not show off.

I am not rich nor am I trying to pass off as being rich. I've managed to put myself through school without the help of my parents through hard work. My car has been the only thing I've accepted from them and that's why it's my baby. If that makes me a "chopo" then be it, at least I am proud of my heritage and don't try to hide it...

What's in a name ?

A chopo is as a chopo does.

I have a friend who has been working for UPS as a driver for about 7 years. I don't know if anyone has ever tried that line of work, believe me it's back breaking. Anyway, One day he shows up to my house with a cherry red 1989(?) porsche 911. I asked him how in the hell did he get the money to buy such a machine? He replied that he borrowed the money from his pension plan and that he will pay it off before he retires. I thought to myself, Borrow from a pension plan may not be such a bad idea, so I followed his lead and also borrowed from my 401k, only difference is I bought a town house.

Last I heard of him, his porsche 911 is sitting idle at his parents driveway because of a blown transmission that he can not afford to replace. Still he refuses to sell it at any cost.

I repeat a chopo is as a chopo does.

"Penis Envy"???????????- "Mine,s Bigger"!

Too bad DR1 won,t let you "Adolescent Boys" post pictures of your "Real Penis",and not just your "Pseudo Penis"! If you knew how ridiculous this "Car-Clothes-Income-House" contest is you might not get involved! The "Boys" in their "20,s" can be forgiven, but anyone over 30 is a "Finalist" in the "CHOPO" of the Year Contest! Any "Woman" who thinks that a man,s car is important will end-up with a poor man! Not showing off

All,

First off, I did not start this talk about cars, money, etc...I was just responding to people putting me down because I live in Detroit and saying that I probably could not afford a nice car...My car is probably more expensive than the cars 90% of the people on this board drive, but I've never talked about it until now. Why? Because it is not a big deal. Who cares what kind of car you drive? Actually, my favorite car was a Honda Accord that I owned for a while. I don't try to impress anybody, because I come from the poorest of poorest of the DR, and everything I got is because I earned it by studying and working hard. I was just proving to TW that, first of all a Firebird does not cost $50,000, and second that he's the biggest CHOPO and he should just accept it and enjoy it. Could I pay cash for a $50,000 car? Yeah, probably, but why would I do that? It's stupid when you could finance it at 2.9%/year and invest that money on something else.

Doug: I happen to know quite a bit about importing fees. You see my brother is a car salesman, and we have this little business where I buy cars here in the US, and ship them to the DR for him to sell. The duties are high (depending on the car), but not quite double.

Tony C.: Neither the Firebird nor the Mustang are so called "High Class" cars. That was my point to TW. To stop acting like it's such a big deal that he has a "sports" car.

DRTechie: I work for the only Big 5 (soon to be big 4) consulting firm that's appeared in Fortune magazine's "Best companies to work for". I'm sure you'll know which one it is. I don't want to say the name outright. Not sure what to tell you, about your offer from Anderson, because right now they're not doing very well (We're basically kicking the pants off of them), but on the other hand most firms are not hiring either, with the soft economy as it is. Good luck!

OK, I've rambled enough....

Suarezn, eat your heart out

Dear Suarezn:

What are you doing up this late? Remember YOU have to report to work tomorrow for that command performance staff meeting!
No sir...you started it. Check the postings to verify. I have the prerogative and pleasure to post anytime I want, because unlike you, I am not a slave like you who has to report to someone in that Motown low life tundra of Detroit, where your bunny must be freezing at this time. Most of my postings are early in the morning. I dont need girls that early. I am basking in the sunshine through my window, while you have gray clouds hovering over your head, wondering...should I get up to go to work?

Your ignorance about DR abounds. Let me give you some prices that you can verify right now by just calling for instance Bonanza Dominicana. The Mitsubishi Evolution VII that just arrived is selling for $775,000 pesos or US$43,000. Even the low end muscle Subaru WRXi is selling for $650,000. Jaguar which sells the Mustangs in DR is selling the low end GT for $800,000. The Cobra tops $900,000 and Cobra R exceeds $1,000,000. Since the dollar just went up, the prices will probably go up. My car is a special order so I cannot give you todays prices, but the day I took it from the dealer I was out $50,000 dollars at 1998 dollars rates(The dollar was at $15.50 to 1). Obviously, you would have to think about borrowing money to buy a car, I dont. I dislike having to follow up car payments, so I dont borrow. I can afford not to borrow money pal.
In fact a major car dealer sits in one of my properties paying monthly so I can buy anything I want cash. It would take you a lifetime just to own ouright the properties I own in the best neighborhoods of DR. What I pay in taxes you wouldnt earn in a year here.

So much for the lesson on car prices in DR. Anyone on this board can corroborate me. You stick to Detroit prices. But we know what goes on here. In addition, license plates will cost you another $1100, insurance $32,000 with Univerasl, gas for these monsters is premium at $2.15, an oil change with synthetic oil is $70 dollars because these cars take six cans, and any trip to Santo Domingo Motors for a check up would exceed $150 dollars. We take these cars every month for checks up and to keep them in high tune. Hey pal, this is not Detroit. You have to earn your pesos here. You need a reality check. You cannot make it in DR with your lowly salary from Detroit.

You wouldnt even be able to afford decent housing here, or be able to pay luxury taxes on cars and houses. This place is for rich people. The rest just have to survive.

As to your Saleen Mustang, I can drive circles around it. I am going to post the stats on your Mustang, which is probably at best a 1995 model and show you that even the stock Cobra was faster even though the price of the Cobra was slightly lower. The Saleem Mustang is all gadgetry and no power. The best you could do straight from Saleen was 0-60mph 5.9 seconds. My car straight from the dealer without the alterations I have made hit 5.3 seconds. I added Borla headers, Eibach Springs, a Dana rear to accomodate my huge 275/35ZR18, 10" rear tires, SLP performance torque bars, and many other goodies from SLP. In addition I took off 200lbs. weight total so this baby here is a lean 3200lbs. hunk with 330hp. Can you say 4.7 in 0-60? I have hit at the La Vega straight on Duarte Highway 155mph easily on 6th. gear with more to spare. My short throw Hurst just needs my fingertips to shake an rattle.

Let me know if you want me to quote every road test given by Motor Trend, Car And Driver and Road and Track showing how our GM brothers(Camaro SS and Firebird Formulas and TransAms) have beaten the Cobras at the gate every time. I will send you road test dates and issues. But the real proof is right here at Lincoln Avenue, where all the heavy machines are. No Mustang, no Beemers M3, M5 has been able to touch me. The Acuras NSX just stare an stay low.

Even in the USA you could not touch me pal. You check the addresses I lived in Chicago, New York and New Jersey and you wouldnt be able to afford even to rent a garage there. And the thing is, I can prove it and there are people in this board who knew me there. You are just bluffing. But even if you live in the best of Detroit, Detroit is Detroit, a piece of junkyard Nothing even close to Chicago or the big apple.

no marine here

JJSK - It's DRtechie not DRmarine. Not that I am offended about being called a Marine...soldiers tend to be a little sensative about the sort of stuff.

mondongo - I am actively searching for a job in DR but it's turning out to be a greater task than I originally though. I will be in Santo Domingo for semana santa and I hope to land at least one interview then. So far I've received an offer to work for Verizon in PR and I am hoping I can turn that into a Codetel offer. I am keeping my fingers crossed.

You can take a pig and dress him in the Finest Tuxedo and it is still a pig. Just because a Firebird cost you $50K doesn't make it not be a chopo car.
The Grosse Point area of Detroit is one of the more exclusive areas in the US. It is where most of the Higher level Auto-execs live.
If NY is soooo great how come so many of them live down here in South Fla? My Brother-in-law is a doctor in NY and lives across from Central Park. He pays almost $3K for a Apt that has little more square footage than my Garage. Jeez! he pays $600 a month just to park his car. Me? I'll take my Green yard with Coconut and Queen palms, My pool and my Sunny days anyday! For New Yorkers, dealing with Nature means watching the Rats run to the sewers and driving means taking a cab. NY is for people how cannot handle the real world. Sinatra got it wrong. he should have sang: "If you can't make it anywhere maybe you can make it here."

The reason most Many New Yorkers retire in Florida and people in Detroit don't is because New Yorkers survive their retirement age longer than Motowners, who died prematurely from black lung.

I will take a townhouse near the East side or Madison Ave. over anything any engineer has ever constructed, except living in Santo Domingo.

Detroit doesn't even have a world class museum. Anybody ever heard of a great master painting hanging in Motown. Detroit's most famous personalities????? I can only recall perhaps a Mayor Coleman? Oh yeah, anybody who runs GM and that's it. There are so many rats in Detroit they decided to find refuge in the great lakes, but got trapped between Lake Huron and Erie. They are all dying of PCB poisoning. Why won't they let Detroit secede to Canada? Can the Tigers play major league baseball? The Dominican Tigres will make mince out of them. Can anybody recall the last famous Detroit Tiger player? Let me take a guess...AA member and gambler Dennis Mclain.
