I'll be flying into SDQ and driving over to a resort in Uvero Alto and was wondering is it faster to cut thru Higuey or just drive to Punta Cana and then drive up? I've driven this area countless times just never had to do this particular point to point drive. Thanks in advance.

Pay attention to signage

Don't go thru Higuey it is traffic chaos. Advise you drive to Punta Cana on the Autovia del Este - Autopista del Coral until you reach the rotunda/rotary at Punta Cana. Then proceed 3/4 distance around the location to exit onto Carretera Higuey-Miches. Follow the signs for Miches and Uvero Alto. The driving time from SDQ to Punta Cana is +- 2? hrs and Uvero Alto from PC is about 30-40 mins. The tolls on the highway for a car are: La Romana RD$ 100, La Roman-Higuey RD$ 50, and Punta Cana RD$ 100.

A side note is that on the Autopista del Este as you enter the suburban ouskirts of La Romana from San Pedro the road will split, the split to the left brings you into La Romana proper, while the split bearing to the right of brings you around and under the left split will keep you on the autopista. A few kilometers beyond this point brings you to the first toll/peaje.

Pay attention to the signage in the area directing you to Higuey.

Enjoy your visit.
