Just before I left for home for the holidays I had a blood work up at CMC. I had a bad cough and it was two years so I thought was a good idea. I have a history of bad cholesterol and the result were great (as the year before at CMC). Back home it was time for a physical and my doctor wanted his own blood work (guess different stuff). Well yesterday I had the physical and we compared both reports. Seems the blood work done here (Quest labs) had my cholesterol and the end of BAD for I haven’t taken the Statan drug for many years do to my good results and CMC! The different number was almost double :-(

Of course this is very, very disturbing (what else could be wrong??). Has anyone out there double checked there blood work at CMC, if so what was the outcome?*

Think all should be aware!! Well back to my Statans.*

My blood pressure was running a little high so I went to the the doctor, she requested a blood test and ECO stress test.

Every year with my annual physical in the States I have blood work done.
My cholesterol has been good.

Florida blood test in November 2016:

HDL: 31.0 (A little Low)
LDL: 90.0 (Good)

Santiago blood test January 3, 2017:

HDL: 31.2
(About same as Florida test)
LDL: 140.8 (Wow, 50.8 mg higher)

Needless to say, bad, bad, bad LDL!

I was not happy and thought, NO WAY my LDL went up 50.8 mg (over 50%) in 2 months.
My eating habits had not changed.

I asked the doctor for another blood test script.
She said the insurance would not cover the cost.

I told her I will pay for it!

I went to another lab which I like more here in Santiago.
(PS: I did not even feel the needle they gave me, great!)

Other lab blood test January 18, 2016:

HDL: 34.0
LDL: 92.8 (Basically the same as Florida)

? LDL dropped back down 48.0 mg in just 2 weeks since the January 3rd test ?

If I had not had the recent tests in Florida, I would have accepted the results and not have known about the discrepancies.

And be treated for something that was not true.

It is a norm to repeat the tests if a particular value is unusually high compared to previous results. And insurance will pay for it. I have had this "repeats" done myself several times regarding different variables.

If your doctor told you no repeats, switch the doctor. In all instances in my case it was the doctors who themselves suggested repeats.

It was me that wanted to do the test over, there was no previous tests from the D.R.
I wanted only the HDL/LDL portion done again. I was not concerned with costs (800 pesos).
I had no written copy of my tests from Florida, I just knew the D.R. one did not seem realistic.
I called the doctor in Florida and had them give me the numbers from the test.

The doctor was just advising.
I never asked her, I told her I wanted a new script and I would get it done myself.

The cost was so little I had no intention of trying to get them to pay for it.

The decision was solely mine from the very beginning.

always good to get 2 results if you see something amiss.

I've done it several times.

You know your body and your habits...better than anyone.

The blood work was done at 2 difference labs in Santiago.

My lab of preference is "Central Medico Cibao - UTESA"
, it matched my Florida results.
