I have one, benign biopsy so it's just BPH. I suffer from an occasional
head cold, runny nose and etc; according to all the "experts" I have
come into contact with there is no known OTC med that a person with
BPH can take to relieve the cold symptoms. By chance is there anyone
on this forum that has found the miracle med? I'm even giving thought
to visiting a "bruja" during my next visit - ha. Again, all the OTC's with
decongestants are a no-no; any help appreciated.

I don't know which "experts" or where in the world they are located you speak of, but I was once on BPH meds, and there was no mention of not being able to use over the counter cold medicines in combination with them. It may depend on the meds you were issued, but this was not an issue for me. I agree, you should consult a urologist first, and if you don't trust the doctors here in the DR, it is very well worth the price of a flight to be on the safe side.

Just curious, where does one get quality medicare just for the cost to fly there?

okay folks, no one seems to be able to read my post - in the first place, I didn't
perform a biopsy on myself SO, it stands to reason that I have already seen
an urologist. Okay, that said, and assuming everyone can read, if shopping
for a decongestant (sudafed or whatever) I read the caution label and it says
"if you have trouble urinating due to BPH consult a doctor". Wallah, this is the
reason for my post - I have not found a decongestant in the states that I can
safely take - meaning that I might not be able to urinate if I take it. So, knowing
that there are many folks (perhaps on this forum) who have the same issue
I posted my query. I know from experience that a person can purchase things
in the DR that are not available to the average layman in the States. Close the
post, I'm done!

Nice try, but you're not baiting me into this conversation. If you'd like the information for a highly recognized urologist who practices in New York and Israel I can recommend one. True gentleman. True professional. One of the only doctors today that I can say this of. I also have a friend who has a well respected urologist in Santo Domingo. He swears by him, I can't. I'm only trying to assist you in a matter that is a very serious and personal one for men, not trying to begin a discussion on worldwide healthcare and all that BS. Again, only trying to help you from experience.

I did not mean that the only cost would be the price of a plane ticket. I was saying that the cost of a plane ticket should not stand in the way of staying on top of your health.

Also the OP is very well aware of his condition, he may only need to substitute his current meds. But this should not be done prior to consulting a doctor, and definately not soley based on a forum such as this.

Banzai,
I (55 y.o.) had a brush with mild BPH.  I did extensive medical literature review and consulted my primary care doc.  I found that there is a body of urological research (mostly from here in the US) which supports the use of low dose Taladafil for this condition.
It is marketed as Cialis.
A daily dose for a month or so completely resolved the symptoms.  I was at our place in Cabarete during some of this time, and found it readily available at trustworthy pharmacies.  So, it's worth doing some research and asking your urologist about it.
Good luck for a rapid recovery.

The problem with taking Cialis for a none ED problem is that the OP will be walking around with an erection that will probably last for more than 4 hours. This opens up a whole new can of worms.

Yes, my own quote from earlier, which the OP disliked. ????? Is this such bad advice that you dislike it. I'm only trying to assist you in a matter that I have direct experience. I don't know how you can dislike a statement from somebody that is only trying to help you. Please explain if you can or wish.

Taladafil in small doses may assist with his BPH, and can probably make him a superstar with his wife or girlfriend, but it is not going to help him with his head cold or runny nose. He was lookng for otc products to help him with this.

"Cold remedies that are inhaled, such as a nasal corticosteroid, will not have the same side effects as an oral agent, Bales added. Mentholated ointments are a safer alternative to decongestants."

Personally, I just suffer. I get nose bleeds from decongestants.

Also, a bit of trivia, but the drug finasteride (used to control the prostate size) has roots here in the DR (Warning: it discusses sexual orientation and transsexuals for you lot that have difficulties with the subject):

Alfuzosin 10mg is what was prescribed to me, and I have not had any side effects or complications when using other medicines.

Nice, handing out dislikes to people willing to help because they didn't understand your cryptic written post.

I have been in the same boat for years.

Whenever I get stuffed up, I use a nose spray called "Metaspray" available in Pharmacies here. It can be used by persons with high blood pressure and I expect BPH as well.

The worse part about my cold symptoms is a stuffy nose, and this product does a great job of clearing it up.

Have had BPH for several years now, take Alfulzocin 10 mg every evening with dinner and use commercially available Saw Palmetto extract that I order through the mail. The urologist I see in the U.S. said taking Claritin 10 mg. (Loratadine 10 mg) daily will not interfere with the effects of the Alfulzocin. I take the OTC Claritin 10 mg from Sam's Club in the U.S. and don't have any issues with nose or prostate.
