According to the accounts written in this DR1 forum and specifically following the meeting in Sosua on 7th March, DR is apparently going to introduce a rolling 30 day extension and a longer stay extension by application. We don't know anymore yet, more so because those that this affected on the NC chose not to pay a visit to the temporary office on their doorstep and share information with persons in similar situations throughout the country. The DGM has responded and many affected persons ignored their proactive action.
We do know that AE went to immigration in SD and was ready to jump through all the hoops including getting a medical in order to extend her 30 tourist card and what did they tell her? Come on you know what they told her. They told her it does Not exist!!!!!!!!!!!! Then asked how long she had been in the country and since it was a little over 30 days all they could say was, well it you can be deported if stopped.

SOOOOO right now there is absolutely nothing for short term/showbirds. Just carry your passport and return ticket and hope they are ok with that if you are stopped so stop telling people the can extend a tourist card because they can NOT.

Firstly read my post more thoroughly before suggesting something I did not write.

The meeting, report and temporary DGM office operation to which I make reference, was after AE went to the DGM office in Santo Domingo and posted her report.

AE made a trip to the head office, which would have involved at least an hour journey each way, whereas those that have been grumbling did not have the energy or desire to go a few hundred yards to a DGM venue established specifically for them and ask about what was reported at the earlier meeting and would provide a migratory status for those seeking peace of mind when they visit such as yourself.

Anyhow, you can all take notice that day by day, DGM are in the process of updating procedures for the services they offer (check their Facebook and Twitter account for updates, application for temporary and permanent residency already updated and reported) and if they follow the sequence to date they will very soon reach the service which gives the procedure to extend ones stay.

I doubt very much that the mentioned rolling 30 day extension at a local office nor the 2 to 6 month extension service was just a spur of the moment statement with so many involved. And so I suggest you keep an eye on the DGM website, now that chance of face to face dialogue has slipped by.

(and to avoid any knee jerk reply, I am fully aware that the current procedure to pay on exit is still in operation and confirmed by foreign missions and fully expect it to continue to do so in the absence of anything else.)

One more time. NO ONE IN THE HISTORY OF THE DR HAS EVER BEEN DEPORTED FOR OVERSTAYING A TOURIST VISA. And furthermore, NO ONE HAS EVER BEEN DENIED ENTRY ON SUBSEQUENT TRIPS TO THE DR AFTER OVERSTAYING A TOURIST VISA.

So let the paranoia parade continue by the same posters for another 100 or 200 posts, or simply close this thread

Well said SKY. However we both know this will continue ad nauseam into the distant future. A dog chasing its tail eventually realizes the futility of the exercise. Not so here!
