Can anyone with experience tell me how this can be done effectively and what are my options? Thanks.

Find a good bulk shipper door to door (Mundanza) in your area.

Current shipping and taxes will likely be from $400-$500. Taxes are based on screen size.

That's crazy

Then you can cut it in half and bring it in your suitcase....no taxes...perfect.

Call a shipper then. Aduana has a book that goes by screen size....not what you paid for it. Been there, done that, and have the t-shirt to prove it.

Good luck.

Sorry, but any TV over 20" is going to be heavily taxed through customs....even if used. However, you can buy a computer monitor under $200 and pay no tax coming through, but I am sure that will not suffice, if looking for 55".

I know many people bringing in TV's of 32 inches. As long as the price is under $200 and they are shipped by air, it is not a problem, those people are paying about $4 a pound in total. One has to talk to various shippers and get door to door quotes for larger TV's like the OP wants.

We shipped one in with a mundanza last year. The charge was $8 US for each inch, so you're looking at a cost exactly where PC said - $440+

For what it's worth, this afternoon, I just bought a 48" Samsung Series 5 (5200) Smart TV today from Corripio in San Pedro de Macoris (next to Iberia). Brand new. In the box. With a 2 year, in my house repair warranty included for 30,000 pesos ($645 US). There were no 52 inch sets available, and they wanted 78,000 ($1677) for a 60 inch. The wall mount stand was 500 pesos.
