This is something dv8 can clear up. i read where it is now going to cost intrepid visitors to the kingdom of Costambar 100 pesos for access to the beach. maybe dv8 can explain how and where the money will be collected, and who gets the privilege of paying.

long story short:
a company (not a local one) applied for permit to maintain beach and parking area and charge for it. initially, this was approved by the local government but after much opposition from junta de vecinos, APC and beach sellers association who are all against privatization of the beach this project now came to a standstill.

so it seems as if the idea might be put into mothballs, then. i was just wondering if they intended to collect the money at the main gate, and how that would affect a place such as a restaurant, whose would be patrons might decide against coming, not because of 100 pesos, but on principle.

it's their country. their riff raff should be able to go to places where you would rather not see them.

Well, idk about costambar, but cofresi sure needs a BIG clean up.
Litter everywhere, lots of alguae.......
Its a pity because it has a lot of potential.
Suprising too as  the big hotel + renting places ( life style ?? ) should do it from time to time. Good PR, local wise. And a lot of guests were walking down the beach so it would also help the overall guest "experience".

I wonder if anyone does a fecal count at both Costambar and Cofresi or anywhere else for that matter. Just saying, all the sewage from Puerto Plata travels west, so I've been told.
