Wonder if they'll relocate to Santo Domingo? They have a pretty cushy lifestyle at Mar A Lago...she can always do her duties by "phone-in".

A Palm Beach billionaire neighbor. They will fit right in. Why on earth would these people want anything to do with the DR? Are they very civic minded or is it the golf course at Cap Cana. Put them in charge of the electrical system and see how long they stay. Very trumpian.

Did anyone notice that the allegedly anti-Semitic Trump appointed a person of the Jewish faith as ambassador to the DR?

Everyone knows that the ambassador job to the DR is just a reward with a gift of free vacations here.

She is a rich Jewish person. He likes rich people of any faith. She does not need free trips. Most likely they own real estate in the DR.

Some people live in Casa de Campo and commute by helicopter to SD on a daily basis. Well its more like one person, but soon could be two.

Hey Bob, does she speak Spanish? A normal president would appoint a person that had connections to the DR in some fashion instead of rewarding a rich neighbor with a post. Degrees are nice but It's pretty clear this is a plum tossed to a big donor. Is anyone expecting big things here? I would rather be wrong but this one sure walks like a duck. Putting politics aside we all would hope she does some good in her new position. If not Palm Beach is just a short hop in her private jet.

I don't know how she will be able to represent the U.S in such a distinguished and dignified manner as her predecessor Sir Wally. He set the bar so very high.

I heard they are moving the US Embassy in the DR to Casa de Campo so they don't have to put up with the rift raft of SD and can maintain there life style with the rich and famous. Buenos Suarte.

Come on people, you all know the rules about bringing Trump and American politics into the regular forums.

Keep your comments to the new ambassador and DR please.

PS. Seven posts have been deleted, having nothing to do with the new ambassador or DR. No more warnings

All presidents appoint people that worked on their campaigns and/or are their friends to cushy ambassador jobs. Trump is no exception to that general rule.

It is a good question as to if the ambassador can speak Spanish.

How do Dominicans feel about this appointment?

Do Ambassadors usually speak the local language?  I'd be shocked if they do. I always assumed they have translators.  Obviously, Spanish is a common language, but look at the rest of the world. Did Brewster speak Spanish?

She does not speak Spanish per her Linkedin but speaks Fench, some Russian and limited German. If you have skills in three foreign languages then it should be easy to obtain some degree of working proficiency in Spanish.

A quick search indicates that very few ambassadors of any country speak the language of the country in which they are appointed. That is definitely not a requirement imposed upon being an ambassador from the US, the UK, etc.

No Matter which President, these appointments are rarely given to people of moderate means.
Most are well established people in their own right. They're not looking for a job.

Prestige perhaps, a job - no.
