DR: Culinary Capital of the Caribbean
The Academia Iberoamericana de Gastronomía and the Real Academia Española de Gastronomía declared the Dominican Republic the Culinary Capital of the Caribbean. Luis Ros and Enrique de Marchena, president and secretary of the Dominican Academy of Gastronomy made the announcement in a press conference at the Presidential Palace.

Ros and De Marchena participated in a press conference at the Presidential Palace on 20 February 2017 after visiting the Presidential Palace to take the good news to President Danilo Medina.  

Several events will be held in 2017 to promote Dominican gastronomy. Ros said the declaration is a great opportunity for the development of Dominican tourism and especially for the city of Santo Domingo with its large number of restaurants. Ros said that the declaration of the country as Culinary Capital of the Caribbean provides a new platform from which to promote the country.

Germany is guest country at La Vega ecotourism fair
Jarabacoa will be hosting the Second World EcoTourism and Production fair from 16-26 November 2017. Germany will be the guest country. The event is organized by the Fundación Ciencia y Arte and the Municipality of Jarabacoa. 

Upon accepting the invitation, German Ambassador Sabine Block spoke of the long green tradition of Germany and the country’s commitment with the protection of the environment. 


Punta Cana Carnival: 4 March 2017
The Punta Cana Carnival will be on 4 March 2017 from 3pm. This is an opportunity to see the best of carnivals from all around the country. The parade happens alongside the Boulevard Primero de Noviembre in the Punta Cana Village. 


Guaguancó: the new Latin music night spot in Punta Cana
Located at central Downtown Punta Cana, Guaguancó night spot has capacity for 400 persons and is where to go for late night dancing of the Latin beats – merengue, salsa, bachata, reggaetton and more. It is a Venezuelan capital investment. 

A small restaurant on the premises is open fro 6:30 to 10pm and then its Latin music with DJs. 

Guaguancó is open on Wednesdays, Thursdays, Friday and Saturdays. 

The restaurant takes its name from the Cuban Guaguancó music. 


Independence Cycling Tour starts 26 February 2017
The most important cycling tour in the Caribbean, the 38th Independence Cycling Tour, begins on Sunday, 26 February at the Mirador del Sur Avenue covering a 20 km route around the Mirador del Sur Park. 

Afterwards, longer circuits will take cyclists on tours that practically cover the entire Dominican Republic, totaling over 1,125 km. There will be races on 26, 27 and 28 February, and then on 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 March 2017. 

Foreign cycling teams that have registered are from all across the Americas, including Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, Venezuela, Guadeloupe, Martinique and the United States. Teams are also coming from Germany, The Netherlands, Switzerland and Russia. Six teams will represent the Dominican Republic. 

The Vuelta Independencia Nacional Republica Dominicana is an eight-stage UCI 2.2 race that is sanctioned by the International Cycling Union and competitors can earn point towards the international cycling ranking.
