I have for over a year paid had an attorney totally complete the citizenship process. Then I guess the whole case goes to the Dept of ______ to for final approval. I got the final examination and was told now I was a citizen but I had to wait 5 months for the paperwork, that was over a year ago. How do I complete the process, my attorney is stumped because we did everything required by the law. Does anyone have some experience or advice for me?

You are not alone. It has been two years for me, same thing, passed exam April 2015, told 6 months. Still waiting. I have sent attorney friends there, each told the same thing - awaiting Interpol. Have now sent a specialist Immigration Lawyer - we will see. If that doesn't work I will send in the big guns. Another option, apparently is to get a police report from your home country, apostilled or legalized (if Canadian) and translated and bypass Interpol.

BigDaddy, with all due respects, if my immigration attorney was stumped, the last place i would go for help is an internet forum like DR1. by the end of the day you are going to get 96 different answers, suggestions, anecdotes , and possibilities. i would get a different lawyer to start, and not waste my time sifting through 107 different accounts of what happened with Bertha and Phyllis.

He posted in the legal forum so hopefully the one he listens to for a correct answer is Guzman, the DR1 legal expert and lawyer.

did you pay the 5000 pesos for the Derecho a Juramentación Nacional Extranjeros and do you have a receipt. They only issue you this when they have completed the three police reports. Judging by my own case, as well as Matilda the hold up is the Interpol report. Ask your lawyer if this report has been completed? Gorgon is correct - might be time to get a more competent, and connected lawyer. When you have completed the oath...etc you receive additional paperwork directly from the Ministerio de Interior y Policia that includes a Certificado de nacionalización that recognizes you as a Dominican national.

Has anyone tried to pay the office that needs an Interpol report the money for them to ask for the report? Is this step of the process only about more money?

no, it is about incompetence. Have they received your interpol report? If not, ask them directly if an FBI report will do ( if you are American) , if their answer is yes proceed to get it yourself.

I brought a translation of my original report used for my one year visa on my last trip to MIP. Upon seeing that they sent me upstairs to meet with the lady that works with interpol. She showed me on her computer screen that the request for my interpol check was still pending. She also explained when she sends an e-mail to inter pol it is to whom it may concern. Interpol does not give her any particular person to call. Upon viewing my translation of my FBI report(with apostille) she took the document and said she will try to work with it. She said to check back in 2-3 weeks. That was on Feb 23. I will check on this Friday to see what happens. If that does not work than I will request a new FBI report. There are lawyers that will make promises they can not keep. The problem in the MIP is just lack of communication. If they had told me upfront the problems they have with interpol and that and FBI report would suffice I would have been a citizen a year ago.

Great news today. Called to MIP and my translation of original FBI report from 3 years ago was accepted. They said i would be getting a call to come and pay my 5000 rd. So to all you with conspiracy theories I say Ha Ha Ha. Most of the problems with dealing with governments even in the USA is communications. One hand does not know what the other hand is doing. Will post more as the process continues.

Is there anyway to ask Interpol to send the report that is needed to the office that releases citizenship? I would not mind just paying them for what they should do anyway

There is no way to request to interpol by individual. I was in the office where they the MIP makes request and as the lady there explained to me she can not contact to an individual in interpol. She can only send a request to whom it may concern at interpol and wait for them to reply. However as I explained before she will accept a FBI report. As a mater of fact she accepted the translation of my FBI report form when I was applying for my one year cedula.

Have a new request from MIP. They called and asked for a photo of our wedding. We were married here over 20 years ago,so I am baffled as to why they want it. I could understand if we were married only a few months before applying but 20 years. My mother in law does have some photos and the want want us to bring them tomorrow at 12:00. Has any one else had this issue?

Yes we were married in Santo Domingo. My wife all ways came with me when we were going through the process. They even commented on how great it was we are married for so long. We mentioned that they have our marriage certificate and they agreed. When asked why they need photos of wedding they just wanted to see them. At least we are just a 10 minute walk from the MIP and i go for a 6 mile walk every morning. So it is not a big deal, but just has me puzzled. We have a 12:00 appointment to see them tomorrow. I will report back tomorrow. By the way Bob did you get your birth certificate ok. let me know what to expect when I go for mine please.

Not yet, they said 30 days, so the 23rd of March but we'll check next week. I didn't want to pay the VIP and stay another day in Santo Domingo to get the BC and Cedula when I can do the process here in Jarabacoa. I hope there are no problems but they haven't contacted us asking for anything else so here I wait with crossed fingers. The woman that is in charge of the JCE in Jarabacoa is a good friend of my wifes and half the people working there are also clients so they will work with us and not against us.
