What are your experiences of outbound customs at SDQ ?

I was travelling back to the states by myself on a trip a couple of years ago and my luggage was taken into a room off the gate waiting area and checked. I was not carrying anything of importance and there was no issue but don't fool yourself. Immigration is out and about. One thing you can't do is try to bring any liquor through security in your carryon bag. If you are bringing back rum you need to pack these bottles in your check in luggage. This is a third world country but they are getting a more 1st world attitude about people travelling to the DR and back.

This has happened to me also a few years back. It was checked luggage the computer system randomly tagged. I was about to board the plane and escorted to "the little room" to have my checked luggage inspected in front of me. No problem, but we aware.

Been reported here before...... secondary inspection of checked bags.

Oftentimes, it's the load of coffee bags that look like packages of drugs on the X-ray

They called me to the inspection room one time because i had some statues wrapped up and they needed me to open it and show them what it contained. Other than i just pay overstay fees and leave.

Not for nothing, OP posted 6 days ago with a pretty vague question. Hasn't been back since. Start with the OP, and his post, and ask yourself why? I'm out.

Why? Short on time and had heard they can hold you up with bag searches etc. Don't want to miss my flight.

Murphy's Law suggests that the one time you are pressed for time is when you will be delayed. It's up to you to get to the airport with enough time to deal with Murphy and all of the subjective corollaries.
