Discover Puerto Plata MarketPlace
Puerto Plata announces the celebration of the Discover Puerto Plata MarketPlace on 4-6 October 2017. The event is in its 6th year and is the leading marketing event for north coast tourism businesses. For the first time there will be pre-set business to business rounds at the event.

The travel fair and booking event this year will be held at the new Blue JackTar in Playa Dorada. Excursions are organized so participants can check out attractions and hotels in Puerto Plata.

Jakaira Cid, the director of the Puerto Plata Destination Tourism Cluster (CTDPP), says the event is sponsored by the Ministry of Tourism.

In making the announcement, Cid highlighted that the site was previously where the first resort was located, a project that marked the takeoff of the hospitality industry in the north coast.

The theme of the event this year is sustainable tourism, in line with the calling from the World Tourism Organization for building a more responsible and committed tourism sector. For more information, write to info@discoverpuertoplata.com or call 809 320-1259

Government announces tender for new Puerto Plata-Santiago road
The Ministry of Public Works is serious about building a fourth road connecting Puerto Plata to Santiago. The Ministry of Public Works is announcing advances in the preparing of the tender for the new road.

The 22 km road would be the shortest, linking Santiago to the Puerto Plata in an estimated 23-minute drive. Passengers could then also fly into the Cibao International Airport (STI) and still be a short distance away from north coast destinations.

Minister of Public Works Gonzalo Castillo said the road would start at Km 18 of the Avenida Circunvalación Norte in Santiago to Gran Parada in the Montellano municipality. The new route would put drivers only 6 km away from the Puerto Plata International Airport.

Castillo also announced the government has planned the expansion to four lanes of the Navarette-Puerto Plata road to happen in 2017.
