Pullmantur Cruises promotes its Santo Domingo departures
On Saturday, 8, 15, 22 and 29 April, Pullmantur Cruises’s 720-cabin Zenith departs from Santo Domingo’s Sansoucí, Port of Santo Domingo, for a first of many 7-night cruises through 2018.

Santo Domingo is one of three ports where Zenith passengers can board or disembark during the Caribbean cruise. The others are located in St. Maarten and Barbados.

The April 2017 trip itinerary is: Santo Domingo - La Romana – Philipsburg (St. Maarten) - St John’s (Antigua) – Castries (St. Lucia) – Bridgetown (Barbados) - Santo Domingo.

The Zenith then returns on 21 October for more 7-night cruises with departures on the 21, 28 October and 4 November. The itinerary for those departures is: Roseau (Dominica) – Bridgetown (Barbados) – St. Georges (Grenada) – St Vincent (Grenadines) – Santo Domingo

Starting 11 November, the itinerary changes to 7-night cruises departing Santo Domingo with stops in Bassetterre (St. Kitts), Philipsburg (St Maarten), St. John’s (Antigua), Castries (St. Lucia), returning to Santo Domingo. Using the same itinerary other cruises will depart on 18, 25 November, 2, 9 and 16, 23 and 30 December.

Starting 2018, other cruise Santo Domingo departures dates are 6, 13, 20, 27 January; 3, 10, 17, 24 February; 3, 10, 17, 24, 31 March, and 7 April.

The Santo Domingo Sansouci Port of Santo Domingo and La Romana Casa de Campo Port departures and returns make the cruise ship an attractive alternative for residents in the Dominican Republic wishing to get away from it all.

At an event to unveil and promote the 18 stops in Santo Domingo cruiseship program, Richard J. Vogel, CEO of Pullmantur Cruceros, mentioned that given the growing number of locals that take the cruises, the Dominican Republic was chosen as one of the cruiseline’s homeports in the Caribbean. Vogel called the Dominican Republic a strategic location for the cruise company.

Here comes Easter Week
The peak Dominican domestic holiday, the Easter Week starts with school children off on Friday, 7 April 2017 through Easter Sunday on 16 April. Dominicans book beach resorts, vacation rentals and hotels all over the country with months in advance.

Those staying in Santo Domingo can expect to enjoy the city with much less traffic. Highlights of the week are the religious-cultural events of the Thursday, 13 April church walk with large groups of persons starting at 7pm on visits of special decorations at the many Roman Catholic Churches in the Colonial City. These remain open until midnight. On Friday, 14 April, the Choir of the Santo Domingo Cathedral performs a free concert honoring Jesus Christ starting at 8pm, also in the Colonial City.

While Easter Week is a religious event, most Dominicans head to the vacation spots in party mode, with many orchestras and performers following the crowds and offering special shows. For instance, Justin Bieber fever hits the Dominican Republic over the Easter holidays.  Bieber will thrill his “Beliebers” at a performance on Easter Saturday, 15 April 2017, at the Hard Rock Punta Cana Hotel & Casino.  Not to be outdone, J-Lo (Jennifer López) is booked for the same evening at the Altos de Chavón amphitheater in Casa de Campo, La Romana.

The modern designs show off women’s figures in six appealing styles – 34 one-piece suits, 27 bikini tops and bottoms, and 9 rash guards.

The collection is available at the Jumbo stores in Greater Santo Domingo (Luperon, Agora Mall, Megacentro), La Romana and at the Downtown Punta Cana store in Bávaro.

We know two (unrelated) couples who took this cruise last week, one young (late 20s) and one celebrating their 50th Anniversary. Good reviews from them all

I was told they give you like 8 hours .. after that , and if you miss you ship , they come looking for you.. but no visa required, as all the passport document are with the ship so they know who you are and all that ... but im not 100% on this .

I'm not sure, all four are Dominican, the three I know all carry American passports. Don't know about the friend who went with our niece.
