Can anyone please tell me if Punta Cana is on Atlantic or Caribbean side, its hard to tell from maps. To me it looks like it sits in the middle. Also is the water nice(as in to swim in) not huge waves? I found Puerta Plata water to be a bit choppy. Any info on the beach area of Punta Cana would truly be appreciated
Thanks

Punta Cana is where the Atlantic and Caribbean come together. The beaches are beautiful and go on for miles. The water is choppier in some places than others. We stayed at the Melia and the water was calm but as we walked North, there were more waves. We used air mattresses everyday but I was told by a friend who stayed at the Iberostar that it wouldn't be possible to use air mattresses there because of the waves. The resort kept the beach free of sea grass. If you want to relax, this is the place to go.
