Like castration and jail after the fact is some sort of lame brain solution. Goes on all the time among Dominicans. Makes the news when it's a tourist. How about teaching kids in school about this common crime. Then run a sex abuse complaint line. Loke 911 but actually works.

You are right. Sex-ed in school would be a good start but I don't think this would be accepted well by DR citizens. It's a strange combination when prostitution is tolerated but the country is very Catholic. It's a fine line between Saturday night and Sunday morning. Foreigners come here thinking that in the DR anything goes. Unless the DR Gov makes a consistent effort to crackdown on these Gringos that behavior will continue. They have to send out a strong message that these abuses will not be tolerated by visitors or family members.

We have 46 female employees, of which around 10 have children and are married. The other 36 or so have no children but either have longtime partners or screw whomever they feel like and none are pregnant that don't want to be. This tells me that they use some form of birth control, meaning they know about the birds and the bees. We do teach sex education in terms of reproduction/biology as part of Naturales starting in grade four. It is in the government issued textbooks. One issue my wife has discovered is that many children as young as 8 have watched pornography on the internet, so this obviously involves internet use not supervised by a responsible adult or older sibling. My wife also teaches about birth control methods and condom use. Many parents are happy that she is teaching this even though it isn't part of the curriculum. We have children that are JW's, Evangelicos, Catholic,....and not one parent has raised any objection to their children learning this.
