Unfortunately, as just witnessed in San Pedro, it doesn't matter how close the local Fire Department station is, or how many members they have on call, if all of their equipment is ancient, and their resources to put out fires, namely water, are non-existent. The supermarket in San Pedro, Iberia, was 2 blocks away from the Higuamo River, but the responding firefighters had no way of pumping water from the river to the fire, and there was no municipal/street sources of water.

The beach erosion there was really bad - zero beach in front of that apartahotel. Another year it would have probably collapsed into the sea. Is there insurance for that? I know there is for fire. Hmmmmm...................
