God bless those living on that island.
just been searching and did not find a single one working.
the NE Corner is already taken blind by Irma.
rthe Martinique/Guadaloupe Radar is all we have left.

Irma is right aside Barbuda and will now move it's WS corner of the Wall over the poor lil Rock.
    the Position is already 17.6N

Irma is projected today to pass more or less the same distance away from the northeast corner of PR and SJU as it will from much of the north coast, so what we see happen there as far as winds, storm surge, waves, damage, etc., will give us a pretty good idea as to what we can expect to see here on the north coast if it stays on the forecast track.

The latest 11pm NHC advisory did show the eye being further north and away from the north coast than earlier yesterday. No guarantee it will stay that way. Let's hope it shifts even further north.

yes, let it shift north til it's balls freeze near the North Pole.
on the last Tracking forecast it should even be further off the DR North Shores than from the PR North Shores.
what happens at the neighbours will give us a good idea about what to await then over here, yep.

    at 2AM.
    17.7N on 15mphr.
    Heading WNW.
Barbuda is under the "weaker" left Eyewall and should be under 155mphrs Winds as the 1st Landfall Victim of Irma.
the next straight Target on the Path is Anguila.
the actual Heading promises a same scenario, Irma passing a bit on the NE with it's left Eyewall over the Island.

after the pass of Anguilla we have the PR NOAA Radar Station as the only Radar station left,
because the DR is the Only Island up here without Radar Coverage.
the PR Station does only reach to the East til around St Croix and covers to the West the Mona Passage.
there is no Radar Station covering any DR Territory.
til a piece after Anguilla Irma will still be visible on the Guadeloupe Radar.

A lot of similarities between PR and the DR. Fairly deep water offshore which will limit storm surge compared to the shallow water around the Bahamian Islands which tends to produce high storm surges and where they are already predicting a surge of 20 ft. Not surprising.

PR also has a cordillera that runs east/west through the center of the island with 4000 ft peaks - again similar to the central mountains in the DR. It will be interesting to see what the weather in Ponce is tomorrow, as well as Fajardo, Arecibo, and Mayaguez.

yes, thats what we have to observe tomorrow.
i serached the last couple hours weather stations and offshore weather buoys in the area of the Leewards, butnot a single one shows reasonable Data, all seems to be down.

Meteorological reference points are usually obscure, not just in the DR. The UK shipping forecast is a case in point. Most non-sailors could not point them out on a map but millions know and love the soothing litany of those names.

Cabo Engano is the easternmost point of the island. The other reference points are: Cabo Cabron for the northeastern point of the island, at the tip of the Samana peninsula, Manzanillo in the northwest, Isla Beata in the southwest and Isla Saona in the southeast
