Daniel Hernandez named at AmResorts
AmResorts announced Daniel Hernandez as returned to AmResorts to be their new regional vice president for operations in the Dominican Republic. Gabriel Felip, chief operating officer for AmResorts, made the announcement. 

Originally from Colombia, Hernandez joins AmResorts after being general manager of Casa de Campo Resort & Villas in La Romana. Prior to working at Casa de Campo, Hernandez had served as regional director for AmResorts. 


Three castles and waterpark at Bahia Principe Fantasia
Spanish resort chain Bahia Principe seeks to attract more family vacationers with the opening of its Disney-like 512-room Bahia Principe Fantasia in Punta Cana. Promoting the resort as “a new world of magic and entertainment,” Bahía Principe has built three castles and a waterpark on the premises for the children and their parents to enjoy at the five-star all-inclusive resort located in Arena Gorda (Macao), Punta Cana. Families also have access to amenities at the adults-only Luxury Bahia Principe Esmeralda.

Carlos Vives coming for 2017 Heat Latin Music Awards 
Colombian singer-songwriter Carlos Vives will be performing in Punta Cana at the Heat Latin Music Awards, to be held 8 June at Juanillo Beach in Cap Cana. Vives is an 11-time Latin Grammy Award winner. He has also won two Grammys. Also participating in the show are Colombian Andrés Cepeda and Puerto Rican salsa performer Víctor Manuelle.

Southwest announces new flights to Punta Cana
Southwest has plans to fly nonstop daily from Fort Lauderdale (FLL) to Punta Cana (PUJ) beginning November 2017. The route is already served by JetBlue. The Southwest nonstop service is still subject to requisite governmental approvals. 

Southwest is the only major US airline to not charge for first and second checked pieces of luggage (size and weight limits apply). The airline also does not charge change fees, though fare differences might apply.
