Aaah, a major Dominican avenue without windshield cleaners... Dreaming is good.

    Oh wait...

Little by little Santiago is becoming a dream-come-true!

After having dirt streets for 19½ years they paved the streets in our "top of the hill" part of the barrio and re-paved all the other streets in our barrio the last couple weeks.

This seems to be happening in many cities and towns in the DR. I think this is more a directive from the government in Santo Domingo, than it is a credit to any local ladrone. How much money destined for road work is still being pocketed by the local governments?

A few months ago Abel Martínez became the new major of Santiago de los Caballeros.

As is the case with politicians, he made many promises during his electoral campaign and people put faith in what he promised.

Now, less than a year, many people have good things to say about his way of ruling in Santiago. The biggest change that most people are noticing is how markedly cleaner the city looks and feels.

What's the verdict among DR1ers? Is Abel Martínez the best thing to happen to Santiago?

There's no question he's a much better mayor than the previous one, but is he positioning himself as among the best ever in Santiago?
He is positioning himself for a run for President in the next election. Yes Santiago is cleaner now

^^ Could be, but he's not the only one positioning for a run for the presidency.

He's doing a very good job while most of the others attempting to position themselves to put their buns on the ultimate chair on the land are not quite doing what Martínez has done and is doing in Santiago. Quite frankly, a Abel Martínez (as he is now) is what the DR needs on a nationwide scale. He gets things done and quite well.
