Criss was right!!!!
That's what this country needs. A "mothers" party that will govern with the good of their children in mind!
Then you will see "true" democracy.....free schools, sanitation, health care.
Any ideas on starting a party such as this!!!
Maybe we should post this one to the "legal" forum to see if it's doable???

Sounds like socialism to me!
If I hear one more politician say "It is for the Children" I am going to go postal.

And what, exactly, do you want to do for the children?

In order....

1. Provide clean safe drinking water!
2. Provide sanitary living conditions (i.e. sewage treatment, garbage pickup, etc.
3. Educate (altho' this maybe should be Number one) and not just "schooling" but educate as to the importance of sanitation, curtesy, basic "life" skills, importance of planning for the future, etc.
4. Health care ( which would be required to a lesser degree if the first three are done).
5. Develop a "work" ethic and instruction in "trade" related occupations and for those capable encourage higher education.

The rest would just be "window dressing" but I could go on and on.........

I've heard said that by sending a man (no disrespect) to college, you educate the man. By sending a woman to college, you educate the family.
It's quite natural for women, even if they work outside the home, to teach their family everything they need to be successful in life, and dad financially supports the effort.
Either way, a college education helps the family in both situations.
IMHO

Sorry but #3 & #5 are just pipedreams. They don't even do that in the US!

#4 is not needed. Any form of socialised medicine will cause more harm than good.

Hmmm.....

#4
Works where I live......when I'm not living here. Does have some bugs in the system however on the whole we're a lot healthier with a lower infant mortality rate than the DR.
I know I use half my luggage allotment when I come down every year to bring medical supplies for the local "rural" clinic. Broke my heart the first year I was here and went to the clinic 'cause I came down with bronchitis and need a prescription for medicine. Saw a little 3 yr old who'd cut his foot getting stitched up with no Lidocaine to "freeze" the wound first. I have a grandson that age and couldn't imagine how painful it must have been.......
Talk about adding insult to injury!!!
I beg to differ on #3 & #5.......education is the key to growth and they do instuct in "trades" in the US. They also encourage higher education and attempt to instill a "work" ethnic. That could explain why the US has the highest number of entrepreneurs in the "developed" world and just might be the reason they are considered the #1 place in the world to live. Because in the US "dreams DO come true!"
Keep in mind I'm not American........I got my beefs with them too but I do give credit where credit is due.

Tony C......

What's wrong???
Don't you have anything else to say?
I've noticed in the DR that most mothers (or at least abuela's) show great concern for their children and would and do, do almost anything for them. Most mothers want a better life for their children.
I've also noticed in the DR that a lot of men don't give a damn about their kids! As long as the man has a bottle of rum and a piece of tail once in a while, he's happy even tho' his children might be hungry and shoeless and uneducated.

Where in the states do you come from????

Last time I was there visiting relatives, all the children were going to school and their parents were teaching them manners, hygiene (which is also taught in school) and life skills.
A parenting class (like they have in the states and Canada for under-priviledged mothers & fathers or for "new" mothers & fathers) would be an important step for the DR to teach the ignorant as to just what good parenting is!! You can't tell me a 12 & 13 year old whose mother/father was the same age when they were born, knows how to be a good parent.
End result the poor stay poor and the rich get richer....
