Costambar
The website says this for a ride from my condo in Costambar to Calle 27 de Febrero in Puerto Plata. 142 to 169$ but the base rates are in pesos so I assume this rate is too! If it's true, I'm going to sell my car!!! :)

Time to install the app. Just did some cost estimates on the website from Sosua to the airport, to Cofresi and to Jumbo. The local taxi guys are not going to be happy.

What will the local transport Mafia do?

True story. I pass by the local Mafioso taxi stand in La Joya every morning on my way in here.
They constantly yell "taxi" at me so I yell back at them even louder "Uber!"
The look on their faces is priceless.

I asked a taxi driver about it today... he said that the sindicato won't look well on them entering hotels, etc. Will see how it goes

Somehow they got a hold of the fact that I did do driving around POP for money, and have bombarded my email with ads about me driving for them. Here in Panama a lot of the local taxis have a sign in their back window with Uber and the red circle with a slash thru it.

I work for Lyft and they are in talks expanding to Intertnational so they are focusing on Puerto Rico first and if it works, they might expand to DR. I've been bugging them for months and they seem to be interested. If anyone in DR wants to be a driver, let me know so I can make a list of interested drivers so I can show them and warrant it to be available in DR as well.

I installed the app tonight...no cars available to go anywhere.

It takes time for drivers to find out and sign up. It was the same in Santo Domingo a year and a half ago. First few months there was never a vehicle available in Gazcue. Now always 5 or 6 vehicles available.
