Yoo Hotels & Resorts to open hotel in Santo Domingo
Yoo Santo Domingo is the newest upmarket hotel to begin construction in the capital city. The construction was begun on Thursday, 3 August 2017 with the symbolic groundbreaking by President Danilo Medina and executives of the property owning company, Grupo Zagalo. Grupo Zagalo’s main executives are Venezuelans Eduardo Zambrano and Marco García, who came for the groundbreaking.

The hotel is going up on Av. Gustavo Mejía Ricart corner Freddy Prestol Castillo, off Av. Winston Churchill in Piantini, a residential-commercial city area where generous tax incentives have turned it into a prime hotel and restaurant district.

Yoo Santo Domingo will have 15 floors and 132 boutique hotel residences of 70, 80 and 92 square meter sizes. The hotel will feature a rooftop restaurant and lounge, an infinity pool, gym, and cigar club, among other amenities. The company announced the hotel is a US$37 million investment.

There are Yoo hotels in Rio de Janeiro and Porto Alegre in Brazil and in Hong Kong, China. In 2018, the company has plans to open new hotels in Boracay, Philippines; Bali, Indonesia, Phuket, Thailand; and the Cotswolds, United Kingdom. The company is known for the outstanding interior designers it hires for its very contemporary properties.

The Yoo Santo Domingo will be a neighbor to the JW Marriott on Av. Winston Churchill, and within four blocks of the InterContinental Real Santo Domingo, also on Av. Winston Churchill. It will be next door to the 14-floor and 120-suites Homewood Suites by Hilton under construction on the same block, and the 13-floor Hotel Urbano Smartech under construction across the street on Av. Winston Churchill.
