Is there really no gym in Cabarete with machines?

Hi,

They tell me the closest is Ocean Village. I remember Villa Tangerine, but yeah now closed?

Really no "normal gym". Does not have to big or fancy but with at least some machines.

Thanks for info.

To my knowledge, the only 'normal' gym is in Sosua Ocean Village like you were told.

Millenium Resorts has a small gym, with some equipment.  Extreme Hotel the same.

No gyms in Cabarete. Closest are Ocean Village and Sabaneta (Samsons) - about same distance from the Cabarete center.

Go to Platinum gym on top of Sosua Casino instead. It is worth the quick ride if you want a proper gym.

It is very good and you will not find a better place including the price level in my opinion.

Generally, no they don't. There are day passes, but they are expensive and you need to be visiting with a member who is booked into the resort.

I don't know what the policies will be for Cabarete but I expect they will mirror those in place at Cofresi.

I did expect a gym at Lifestyles would be of little use to those that live or spend a great deal of time here.

Viva Wyndham Tangerine's gym used to be open to the public. Air conditioned, machines and free weights, even had monthly membership and a trainer. Don't know if it's still offered, but you can check.

For the price, samson's Gym in Sabaneta is hard to beat. All the machines and free weights you could possibly need, plus spinning bikes, treadmills, and eliptical machines. Pay as you go. No membership required. The only thing it lacks is a/c. 50 pesos per session.

Actually, there is one in the Callejon, but it's pretty tacky looking from the outside. Didn't waste my time going in. Also, there was one on the 2nd in the small plaza next to Freddy's ferreteria. Not sure if it's still there(?). Just a small local gym. Never bothered going in. I go to Samsons in Sabaneta - has everything.

A friend of mine from France uses the one in Callejon every day when he's here. It can't be that bad.

I was in the Callejon today so I thought I'd take a look to see if it looked any better on the inside. It doesn't. It's small, dark, and dingy. Limited types of machines, most were old, and several were broken. Samsons in Sabaneta looks like a Bally's or Gold's Gym by comparison. I guess if you're living in the Callejon on a tight budget it's better than nothing. Only 30 pesos.

Its really that bad, although if all you need is a couple of weights, it may be adequate. Keep in mind that la luz there is on Callejon schedule, so maybe 15 hours a week. The only treadmill they have is stuck on the maximum incline, so unusable. That's all I remember from my first and last visit.

The one in Sosua Ocean Village has had a bit of a drop-off since it's initial days as a Gold's Gym, but is still very nice. Not the cheapest, but they have everything you need, and then some. A few machine hogs here and there, but overall it's a nice experience. Also comes with access to the pool, and one of the nicest ocean views I've ever seen in a gym.

Only 2 have a/c, Formerly Golds in Ocean Village and Platinum in Sosua proper.
Platinum runs the a/c as warm as possible which I find annoying.
Have not been to Ocean Village lately to comment on a/c or equipment but it does have a/c.
Problem here with the machines is maintenance. They break down, need parts and an experienced technician.
Ocean Village was a Gold's gym franchise but there are strict rules so it was not long before the franchise
agreement ended.
One other is worth mention. American Gym in P.P. is excellent. Its only fans but there are lots of them and they are industrial so its not bad at all. They also have an variety of equipment. If you ever go to P.P. and want to try a new gym for a time its nice.
In the winter the a/c is not an absolute requirement. In August it is pretty hard to work in the brutal heat.
Good luck.
