Dozens, or maybe hundreds of shacks and even houses wete destroyed today by police and army and people had to go elsewhere. Colmados etc are already closing as the criminals anounced that there is a great group coming from SFM to fight with the police and "tumbar el pueblo " and destroy the bridge.
So if you travel on the north-coast be very careful. Most people here stay home.

Similar situation many years ago now west of Kite Beach in Cabarete, but that was directly on the ocean. Villa Magante is not on the ocean. Were the many houses destroyed on private land built by squatters?

Hundreds of families are evicted from land occupied by invaders in municipal district villa magante:

Villa Magante, Gaspar Hernandez.- more than 36 house were destroyed from early morning by the national police officer and others sent by the office of the prosecutor.

Never seen, in this eviction, Colonel Ortiz ordered his agents to allow the person to withdraw their. from their residences and to take the sin and the wood if he wished, in a sample of human feeling.

The invaders pointed out that they had a long time residing in these land and bought very expensive so that they would now come with this. It is a sad and delicate situation because of many of these people now has to retire to the house of friends or family.

We continue to monitor the situation.

Yes that is the guy.
A lot of police. The gangsters have chopped some beautiful trees on a nearby finca, burning tires.

What Facebook tells you is partly true. Most of them had their house in Las Yaguas and used the occupied terrein as an investment. Yes some paid up to 200.000 pesos,  stupid as their are no documents.

As always, lots of misinformation running false and wild, intersecting with the truth. It seems the government ordered an operation at the request of the proper, legal, land owner. Yes, it is a horrible event when people who have lived on this land for years, lose what they have believing they are entitled to it, BUT, what is their entitlement to begin with? The fault does not lie within the government enforcing the law, nor the authorities enforcing the government's ruling, BUT, with the bogus legal representatives/attorneys that sold these parcels of land to these poor unsuspecting people without proper rights, deeds or documents to do so. It's not the first time in RD. It's not the last time in RD. Unfortunately, it will continue to happen, as people choose to reclaim the land that is properly theirs.

This is absolutely the truth. Sad....but true.

I have a close relative involved in a court case trying to get back about 100 acres adjacent to the river, just outside of Bonao. The people on his land also claim to have been sold parcels on his property. He has extensive records of his family's ownership of the land and expects a ruling in his favor by year's end. Some of the squatters he talked to have already moved from the property. He doesn't want to resort to using police/military force to evict the rest.
