Best way....for SDQ to Punta Cana and back.

Hello.

My wife and I are arriving at SDQ around noon on a Monday. I need to get to Punta Cana (Paradisus Hotel). We will stay there for four nights, and then we need to make our way back to Boca Chica (Coral Hamaca). We will stay here for three nights. Then we need to get to the SDQ airport for a 8:30am Monday flight. What is the best way to do this??

The tour Co. says that they will take us from the airport to the Paradisus, and then from The Coral Hamaca to the Airport all for $70 US. We have to get between Paradisus, and Hamaca on our own.

From what I have been reading this seems very high. (unless we're riding in a private Limo). Is there a better/cheaper way.

One more question.....

Is flying an option.??

Is there a way to fly between these places?? How much would it cost. I'm thinking that it would be better than the 2 to 4 hour bus ride if it's cheap enough.

If you are landing at Las Americas International Airport (Santo Domingo-SDQ- about 3-1/2 hour drive)) and they will be taking you to the Paradisus in Punta Cana, and then from the Hamaca to the airport (about 15 minute drive) take them up on it. It is not expensive, you are getting a good deal. To do it cheaper you will need to go by public transportation and that is a hassle if you are traveling with luggage, and especially when you just get in.

To go from Punta Cana (Paradisus) to Boca Chica (Hamaca) you should take a taxi to the Bavaro bus stop (about RD$250-300 -- about 20 minutes). There catch an express bus to Santo Domingo that will make a stopover in Boca Chica (about RD$70 -- about 3-1/2 hours). At the Boca Chica bus stop take a taxi to your hotel (about RD$75- about 10 minutes). Divide all these rates roughly by 17 to get the US$ costs.

See the thread in Travel topics "bus from Punta Cana to Sto Dom?" it will answer your question about bus transit in more detail. Although you can use taxi's and buses for your total transit my advice is you need to be experienced in island travel to coordinate your travel on the surface. Your best option is to use the service of the tour company for your airport transfers it will save you some pain. You can use bus travel from Punta Cana to Boca Chica. Tell the folks at the Paradisus Hotel about your transit needs and they will advise how to take the local bus Punta Cana to Higuey(60 min) and then the express bus from Higuey to Sto. Domingo (2hrs to BC). Just let the driver of the express know you want to get off at Boca Chica. Then take a local taxi to the Hamaca. Don't pay over RD$60-70 for the taxi. The total cost of both buses is RD$95 or a little under US$6. Don't be surprised if other posters pop in and give better advice. We'll get you there. Regards, PJT

From the Hamaca to the Airport is a 10 minute ride by auto. A taxi will charge US$15 each way.

The ride from Boca Chica to Punta Cana will vary from 3.5 to 4.5 hours. A taxi will charge US$110 each way.

So, the price is US$250 for private transportation. You have a very good price but you can save some money by taking the bus (see picture below) between Boca Chica and Punta Cana.
