Just when I thought I'd experienced most types of idiocy and insanity in this great country I've returned to, I'm reminded that yes, there is more. A posse of no less than 60 men and women , dressed in western gear, riding Paso Fino horses just paraded past my house in the Colonial Zone. I'm not against riding horses in the street at 10:00 p.m., but, the colonial-wall-shaking, car-alarm-activating Mariachi music blasting from the oversized speakers in the Jeepetas accompanying the posse, was a little too much. I'm guessing they had a permit since they had a National Police escort at their rear. I wonder who is going to clean up all the horse****?

If you have to bitch about something like this maybe it would be better if you'd move back to where you came from? ;)

At least that's not a regular occurrence. Here in cotui in my barrio there's this guy at 5 am on the dot every morning from September till Christmas
banging his tambora waking everyone up. Supposedly he's a rep from the church, but I don't think anyone asks for that. They say the DR is so loud you can hear us from space lol.:p

They were just welcoming you back. Nothing else. I have stopped running away from noise in this country. I tried but to no avail. Next move, to a campo for me?

Be careful what you wish for.  An evangelical church opened down the road from us, microphones and speakers, singing and proclaiming the word of our Lord at the tops of their lungs till all hours of the night.  Every night got.  The campo got together and went to the police.  Now they have to shut it down at 10.

I've tuned out motoconchos and cars and buses blowing their horns incessantly, however, the mariachi music was exceptionally loud last night. I like mariachi music, my cousin's daughter just won a Latin Grammy, along with her all women mariachi group.

We have a popular evangelical retreat at the end of our street, and sometimes they can get loud rejoicing in the Lord.

To their credit the music stops at 11pm. We're OK with that.
