Santo Domingo.- The Spanish chain Senator Hotels & Resorts announced the purchase of three hotels in Puerto Plata totaling 1,590 rooms, the largest tourist complex in this region, with an investment of US $ 100 million.

A statement from the chain reported that the hotels will be renovated during 2018 and will operate as a complex. The establishments (Merengue, Mambo and Bachata) belonged to the Spanish Riu chain that for several years had expressed its intention to leave Puerto Plata.

José María Rosell, president of the chain held a meeting with President Danilo Medina to inform him about the operation that was carried out by the DMK Lawyers Central Law office, chaired by Enrique de Marchena.

The Andalusian hotel group with more than 25 years of experience in the sector, explains that the "opening of new markets is one of the main objectives of the chain, which is immersed in the process of internationalization", and continues betting "on the innovation and growth ".

Part of this process, says Senator, is "the recent incorporation of Marc Pelfort as Vice President of Sales for America and the construction of the luxury resort Senator Riviera Cancun, in the Mexican Caribbean," actions that "demonstrate the strong expansion strategy is taking place. " The opening of the resort in Cancun is scheduled for December 2019, with more than 1,000 rooms.

Senator operates its establishments under the "Playa Hotels" brand, located on the beachfront; Diverhotels, which are family establishments; Senator Hotels, which are located in urban areas; Playa Apartments, and has a theme park with the Oasys maca. It also has only adult hotels.

Puerto Plata

In the circles of Puerto Plata linked to the tourist activity, the news of the arrival of Senator has been received in them with great enthusiasm, because the arrival of a "new actor willing to invest", they perceive as a "new push" for the local tourism industry.

"I was aware of the negotiation process, and this operation is very good news for tourism in Puerto Plata," said José Natalio Redondo, president of the North Hotels and Tourism Association.

Isn’t this the one where many reviewers were angry because locals flooded the hotel on weekends for the AI and ate all the food and there was kid poo floating in the pool?

Sounds about right. Decent Dominicans stopped going to this type of resort more than a decade ago !!

You all paint a picture of hotels I wouldn't want to stay at. The same thing happened to some complexes in Puerto Rico, (Palmas del Mar and Conquistador) which were quite pleasant during the week but on weekends were flooded with screaming children and trash throwing loud and drunk adults.
But hey it's their country if they want to crap in pools they will - it's just a standard of unhygienic that repulses most of the Western World.

from October 2018 there will be no flights yo Puerto Plata from the UK. Apparently this is because of tge sale of these hotels. Does anyone know anything about this? There are lots of unhappy regular travellers.
