Has anyone experienced Silver Cable internet speeds slowing down ? Been having speed issues with them, especially on the weekends. Have addressed the matter with them and their response is - the problem is in the street. (responsibility?) Yet, when they are called to report the aberration, the speed returns to normal within 20-30 mins of call. They are super fast to correct street problem !!!! Suspect they robbing bandwidth for preferred clients.

What say you ?

Any recommendations for better service ? Sort of who is the best of the worst, cause one cannot expect quality service from anyone.

Regards,

PJT

Cable modems are on a star topology. If other users on your star are doing things that top out the bandwidth allotted to your star, then things can slow down because of that overload. The speed problems will come and go based upon how much bandwidth others on your star are using. Could be one explanation.

The problem may be bandwidth. Here in Jarabacoa, there are times on the weekends when speeds are very slow because so many people are online at the same time.

There is only so much bandwidth to go around on an ADSL or cable line, and the ISP's are reluctant to spend the cheese necessary to add more infrastructure.

Glass cures all, but it's an expensive installation.

Here in El Cortecito/Los Corales area of Bavaro, Silver Cable is down almost every afternoon and sometimes into the evening. Thinking very seriously about switching over to Claro, as they have HD Television as well as decent internet connectivity. Silver Cable is barely analog quality with their picture quality. Our community WiFi is on a Silver Cable port and thus it is ususally down when my home WiFi is down...very discouraging.

We ditched them several months ago and so have other people we know. Appalling service.

We've had Claro for several years and added SC mainly for Bein Sports. Now we're back to just Claro.

Update: At least in our neighborhood of El Cortecito, the service has improved. Our person who manages our property for us when we are in the States went to Silver Cable and explained to them that if they did not improve service immediately, all of his customers (some 40) would all cancel their service. Wala! No outages for over 2 days now!

Silver Cable service is just plain lousy and they know it . In Punta Cana ( and I'm guessing elsewhere ) they know that they have a lot of their customers complaining about the same " slow/no speed" issues . One of their ex-tech told us that the problem is "over subscription of customers to low capacity resources" , but they still charge you in full ...something like 1900rd$ for 3MB ...but with actual speed 256kb if you are lucky  .

As they say , here you deserve what you put up with ...so we dumped them for Claro fibre optic and never looked back . Not a big fan of Claro service too - but the fibre optic sevice is faster , cheaper and more reliable ...has been working ..and still works at consistently high speeds all the time ( except maybe during the hurricanes) .
