Last week’s thread sparked some interesting dialogue. It changed the way I read newspapers last week because I was constantly looking out for examples of the selected words in articles other than the original one where I found them and that’s one of the goals of this type of exercise which is to increase your awareness when you read and observe the way vocabulary is used.
I read various newspapers daily and will choose words randomly that I think will be interesting to either learn (if you are not familiar with them) or observe how they are used in writing. One aspect that came out of the other thread is that the words chosen are used in the Spanish-speaking world. Therefore, they are not Dominican specific (that would be so limiting and the forum is for Spanish language topics).
A regional word is a word that used only in a specific country or region of the Spanish-speaking world. None of the words in the previous week’s thread was a regionalism. However, some may be included down the road which would certainly be interesting to analyze.
Here are this week’s words:
(Seven words because there are seven days in the week + one bonus word)
If you see these words or expressions used in a newspaper article post the example of usage or create your own phrases as an example (to the best of your ability).
1)Avistamiento

Here is the link of the article. I have added it because this is a topic I think is interesting to discuss and one that is stirring controversy in many parts of the world- illegal migration. However, if you comment on the article you must comment in Spanish since this is the Spanish forum.
