It’s well known that many of Haiti’s founding fathers, especially Jean Jacques Dessalines (its even said that in every town Dessalines passed through he impregnated several women, and this guy visited all regions of Haiti), practiced the right of first night. This implies that this select group of men had the right to deflower teenage girls and the girls parents wouldn’t be able to object to this.

My question is if this practice still exist in parts of Haiti, especially in rural areas?

This past weekend this topic came up and someone that’s well acquainted with that country insisted that its still practiced. Had he been a Haitian I probably would’ve believed it completely, but...

Any documented evidence available?

Eyewitness accounts?

Rumors that seem probable?
