Does any one here know the name of a less expensive drug (RD 3,260 for 30) that Lipitor or Plavix that is available here?

Try Zocor (Simvastatin) at double the dose (max 40mg) for lipitor. Aspirin is as good as Plavix for most cardiac conditions..depends on your condition.

In the DR many docs prescribe Gadolip 135 (fenofibric acid) for lowering LDL. It's a little less expensive than Lipitor.

Perhaps DV8 could add her experiences.

Generic lipitor is inexpensive here, under the generic atorvastatin.

If you're used to Lipitor, don't change.  Lipitor you can take at any time during the day; Simvastatin, for example, needs to be taken at night.  I had taken both simvastatin and atorvastatin.  Cardiologist (in US) changed to lipitor as simvastatin was not working.

Omacor is Omega 3, not a statin.

According to my cardiologist all statins work better taken at night and without other meds ( I take 10 mg Crestor)

both medicine have generic versions from dominican labs. it's enough that you ask in a pharmacy about the compounds: atorvastatina and clopidogrel. generics will have different brand names or sometimes go by the name of the compound itself. the bigger the pharmacy the more chances that they will have a wider choice of laboratories and products.

Generic Lipitor is Atorvastatin.

....yes I would recommend atorvastation...40 mg is the common dose,,,about 1900 pesos per 30...your body absorbs cholesteral at night from about 11 pm to 2 am...so take at bedtime.....a low dose aspirin ,81 mg is for thinning your red blood cells, one a day helps prevent stroke or heart attack.........Doc.......

Along with my atrovastatin and low dose asprin I have just begun Metopolol and Losartan which are doing wonders for my blood pressure vs the Verapamil that I had been on for years.

Timely coincidence.

Mom CB got the renewal notice for one of her meds last week from her US insurance company, a blood thinner for her specific needs. And it's expensive.

Her copayment went from $195 every quarter to $650 every quarter. Huge increase.

We were at her cardiologist at HOMS yesterday and she asked him if he knew of a less expensive local pharmacy since this drug will not be generic for two more years. He mentioned a patient who teaches at a Christian school in Santiago that uses an even more expensive heart medication. This patient gets the drug from a Canadian pharmacy through EPS and he saves many hundreds. He called the patient and got permission to give me the pharmacy in Canada he uses.

I called the pharmacy today. Yes, they accept a physician prescription from the Dominican Republic for this drug. Yes, they can ship it to EPS in Miami. The cost is $225 + $25 shipping for her 90 day supply, a fraction of just her co-pay from the stateside insurance company. Yes, the drug is produced by the correct manufacturer. And yes the drug will come from Turkey through Canada.

I checked this pharmacy and the cost for name brand Lipitor 40mg is $119 for 90 days.

Might be worth looking into.
