From what I've read, the time does not change in the DR. They did try to implement this practice in November (I think it was the November past) and it created so many problems it was changed back after only a few weeks. I understand that due to their proximity to the equator, it really isn't necessary to adjust the clocks to allow for more daylight.

I heard they tried it in 2000 and almost the whole country showed up late for work, so they dropped it! Only in the DR.....

AST doesn't change

AST doesn't change, neither does the DR. Last year there was a very short, failed experiment with falling back, but it only lasted a few weeks before it was scrubbed to the relief of nearly everyone.

We used to change to keep on the same time as New York. It was easy and painless. However, some brilliant governmental check casher decided that we should "stay" on Daylight tiem.....

Just a lazy ass way of doing things....

By all rights we should be on EST and next week switch to EDT, but hay! this is the DR.....
