Hi,
I have posted this question on newsgroups and different boards but with no luck other than bunch of spam LOL
Ok here I go
I'm planning a trip for our 10th anniversary (end of October for 5 to 7 days) and I would love to visit DR, what I'm looking for is a Villa (small I guess since it will be just the two of us) ocean view if possible (I also have a $3000 including airfare budget), we both love snorkeling so hopefully close to a beach that has good snorkeling, I want definately enjoy local cusine fresh seafood maybe have a maid/cook? Does anyone here have suggestions? please don't send me to the Debbies web site LOL been there didn't find it very helpful for what I'm looking
Grazie

Boun Giorno! Yes, you can do this.

there is a nice lady that used to have a wonderful eweb site called "luxurydominicanvillas.com" but is is no longer operating.
However, she still has all of her contacts. there are some really georgeous villas on both the north and south coasts of the DR.

If you will send me an email, I will hook you two up so you can plan....

HB, the ham in the lives of so many!!

My suggestion to you if you are a first timer would be to forget the villa and visit Samana. There are many lovely small hotels that can cater to your needs and there are lots of good restaurants in the Las Terrenas area. In Las Terrenas we can recommend the Colibri Apartment Hotel that has a good kitchen -- with a well stocked supermarket in the area (and good restaurant in front of the beach, and sufficiently near many beach restaurants). Or you can choose full relaxation at the isolated Las Ballenas hotel in Punta Bonita, also with good food. For the October time you want to come you will have no trouble finding good lodging.

If you have your heart set on staying at a villa, send me an email at dolores@dr1.com and I will give you the telephone of a friend who manages a villa in Portillo, Samana. You could also write to Boston doctor Rafael Ortega rents out his Cabrera house, although maybe this one would be outside your budget. But you can email him at raortega@aol.com
Have another friend who has a house in Guayacanes/Juan Dolio right on the beach. But this does not come with a cook.

Basically, browse through our destinations list (see sidebar in the travel page index at http://dr1.com/travel/index.shtml to choose the area in the Dominican Republic that matches what you are looking for.
If you choose Samana, you should go ahead and rent a small 4W vehicle. We recommend National Car Rental at http://www.dr1.com/national

Hi,

I stayed at a villa once....not in the DR but in Montego Bay, Jamaica. I definitely recommend a villa vacation! It was one of the best vacations I've ever had and was really affordable....and you are planning to go in the low season which is good. Our villa was on the property of a resort that we had full access to (snorkeling, etc) at no additional cost....maybe you could find something similar in the DR to meet all your needs.

As for DR villas - I haven't been to DR yet....am going in 12 days! But here are some villa websites for all Caribbean Islands that you may find helpful:
http://www.villascaribe.com/
http://www.caribbeandest.com/

Good Luck with your search. Hope you find something!
