How many new starts of residential and commercial building permits were issued last year and current listings for this year. In addition expected future growth and development. Also information of building products exported from the DR to neighboring Islands for general building purpose and hurricane relief materials. Thank you for any information.

Difficult information to come by without a personal visit. You probably could dig something up visiting the Ministry of Public Works or the city hall (Ayuntamiento). Also will depend on whether you are talking about Santo Domingo or another city.
Best to get an idea is just to drive around the city of Santo Domingo. Lots of construction, especially in the newer areas of town -- Poligono Central and Arroyo Hondo (north of J.F. Kennedy Expressway).
Lots of business towers going up. Will there be a glut? Depends on how the economy fares in the next three years.
Real estate sales are hot now. Apparently many people are taking out loans to defend the value of their investment, with expectations of the peso to devaluate further.
But other builders say that there are lots of apartments available that have not been sold.
You may also contact the Camara Dominicana de Construccion (call 530-5454, of Hormigones Moya, company of the president, Diego de Moya).
Also research the different realtor companies -- such as Remax, Century 21, Coldwell Banker to get a feel for the market.
