Last month my friend Carlos used his Huntington National Bank debit card 4 times at Banco Popular ATM machines in Azua and 4 times in SD. When he received his statement from Huntington this week Banco Popular had charged RD $500 fee per transaction.

I haven't been in the DR since last May but I can't believe that ATM fee's have gone up this much.

you better it is true!!

My friend when I was last in Santiago back in December and
January of this year I lived off of the ATM what a mistake!!

Banco Popular and Baniter charged $6.00 USD per transactoin
even El Mirante Casino put a hefty fee on all my transactons at the casino what a shame and sham, I'll be careful the next time.

Terms & Conditions

Folks, best to check the Terms & Conditions for the use of the card. Some bank issued cards offer a no-fee service for ATM transactions, give your card issuer a call. I have used my card at various ATM locations, including those at Banco Popular, Banco Reservas and BHD with no fees. Regards, PJT

Standard transactions fees ATM

for Canadians this is standard, $2 for each transaction in the USA and $4 for each international transaction. Read the fine print on your terms contract that came with card, it is there. Mine is free in Canada, but not outside the country.
MommC in answer to your Mastercard mine are Visa Gold (RBC)

Fees

Mastercard International fees are $6. Can per transaction.
Last year Banco di Progresso charged me $50. for cash withdraqwal on my TD Visa card. I disputed the charge (It wasn't shown on the slip (no I didn't use the ATM - it was an in bank withdrawal). Took about two months to get my refund but I did! Then had to go back to TD to collect the interest they had charged me because I didn't pay the $50 on the statement to them. Got that back also........
Pays to check your statements when you get home!!

I paid US$1.5 per transaction at the following within the last few months, for an ATM card on a US bank account:

Baninter - Santo Domingo
BTH - Plaza Central - Santo Domingo
BTH - El Conde - Santo Domingo
BTH Tricom - Boca Chica
Banco Popular - Boca Chica

The exchange rate the ATM's gave me during the 1st week of April was RD$16.98 per US$1.

Since I was getting RD$17.4 at the cambios (Dominican rate) and RD$17.4 at the airport (SDQ) about the same time, I'm losing about US$0.024 per dollar when using the ATM from the exchange rate alone.

On a withdrawel of RD$3000 from an ATM machine, my cost compared to bringing US$ with me is:

ATM fee: US$1.50
Exchange Loss: US$2.85
Total Cost: US$4.35 on a withdrawel of US$115, or about 3.8%.

My back Americard her gives me 3 free uses then charges te 1.50and I think im getting dood exchange rate Banco Popular says they take less of a bite from their customers than other sources. At least they advertise it and it seems to be true..Ive had good luck with Banco Popular and also BHD sammy..
