Small increase Olly..

Not too much
A few pesos each booth

Hardly worth the cost of changing the signs

As with many concessions that are ceded by the gov't to private companies that are supposedly going to better the country's infrastructure, and their long term associated efficiency. Odebrecht comes to mind. Aerodom comes to mind. Barrick Gold comes to mind. Similar to a loan to the government, like with the big banks, private equity firms or IMF, etc., but by corporations having the expertise in large projects the government doesn't have. That tollway aforementioned, has a minimum annual guarantee owed to the private, bilateral project's initial cost projections. It's typically called a "Claw Back". If the projected numbers don't meet the original estimates, the government is responsible for the difference. Tolls, fees, assurances, are passed on to the end users, despite some political grandstanding to soften the backlash. A deal is a deal. Most deals seem to be for about 20 years or so, but negotiable before they expire.

That's just my understanding of them, of course, but something I've had at least some peripheral participation in, but admittedly small. The sea cargo business at La Haina? Dubai ports had (has) a big hand in that, didn't they? Not very familiar with that whole deal, but would be interesting to know more about it from someone who might provide the info.

Nice road, saves time but what a ripoff the last 27kms from El Catey to LT. This is typical of the kind of deals that the DR politicos negotiate at the expense of the public. I would really like to know who got greased for agreeing to this nonsense.

Follow the court proceedings...

$94,000,000 Obrecht paid.....
You may notice there are few, if any, roads under construction these days

I look at it this way. The toll is ridiculous, but without this deal the ride getting to Samana would be even more ridiculous. I for one am very happy it is there.

I wouldn't have it any other way...

North Coast to SD is crazy without it..... long trip, wrong side of SD... all wrong
costly yes.... necessary, certainly.

There is one "infinite" road building project to widen the road to four lanes between Puerto Plata and Santiago.

And there is talk of a "toll road" between Santiago and a spot east of Puerto Plata that would cut travel time in half.
Sound familiar?

There is also a very important project near completion that will take you around SD traveling to Punta Cana and SDQ. Cannot wait for that to be completed. Should be soon.

The toll, end to end is certainly high, but it does limit the traffic to an acceptable level and to drivers who can afford a driver's license (if they choose to get one).
