interesting article in LD yesterday about a project for new law that would penalize renting properties to foreigners with irregular migratory status:
https://www.listindiario.com/la-rep...cto-ley-penalizaria-alquilar-casas-a-ilegales

the article specifically talks about haitians and venezuelans which indicates where the main problem lies but if approved it could apply equally to everyone.

in rendicion de CUENTOS danilo did touch the migration issue. as announced, new soldiers are arriving to the border with haiti. will new legislation follow?

The object of this law is to force the owners and/or administrators offering to rent properties to do the job of government.

If you are renting to someone who stays beyond his/her 30 days they may disappear in the next Prison Bus Gringo Roundup Tour. Ask over-stayers for the rent up front maybe

I have yet to see one of those... wonder how all the taxistas, real estate, cueros, and tourist strips will survive if they DR suddenly said, "we only accept your money upto 30 days"

Those 1st worlders who grossly overstay and in particular those who overstay and work here do not represent a very large percentage of the foreign influx of cash into the economy.

Some real estate decisions may have been predicated on the situation in times gone by when it was easier for the owner to come for an extended stay and find an extended term renter when they weren't here. The majority bought as an investment and whether that was a good decision or a not so good decision isn't known until it's time to sell.

Since the time of the regularization plan lots of those who were irregular did make the attempt to change their status so the numbers of holdouts is even less. The monthly stats issued by DGM show more people leaving than arriving most months. Those who are going to uproot themselves have already done so or are making plans to do so. The biggest impact by way of total numbers affected will the the tourists who wish to come here for the winter months. How they react and are affected going forward will become clearer in time.
