AMET is in the round about in front of Jumbo every morning. Also all over POP in general as is NP. It never use to be like this. Any reason for all the new coverage?

There may be something else going on besides Immigration reform.

The standard Nagua road gang was in place yesterday morning...
but
this time they had 2 large signs - 3ft high and 6ft long - maybe

to get through you had 'S' curve your way around them
No ordinary shakedown... this was real...
more of them in full battle gear - all official

I tucked in behind Caribe Tours and slipstreamed past

But I have never seen an actual road 'blockage' before

Mostly helmet infractions is what I see....

we had 2 deaths this weekend in Cabrera... no rear lights
at least get a 3M stripe on your back !!

Both squashed at the scene... dead

Their family chased the driver at the hospital..machetes, etc
he had stopped to help those he hit

always the driver's fault
admittedly, not blameless...but lights please.

No idea of the vehicle speed

A good reason not to go to the hospital. The only way to get those Chinese motos without lights off the roads is to seize the bikes. I don't care if they need it for a job. I always checked my lights when I rode because my life depended on it.

But as Patrick (late of Los Gringos) said, when he was telling about breaking his leg in Luperon: "I had all my lights but the cow that I hit didn't have any."

So
Again today the roadblock.... no can pass....

Sooo professional... no asking for money...

Just hello and papers - license, insurance, matricula
They check it all and on you go

Not a shakedown at all -- a crackdown

Big line of motos....

The times - they may be achangin'

We were stopped at a roadblock going to Jarabacoa from La Vega late Friday afternoon. Very professional. Did not ask for papers but did a fist bump, looked inside the SUV and waved us on. I suspect they were looking for someone or something.

Look at my dates LT

the most recent could be Semana Santa but the other was earlier.

Just a general 'tightening up' exercise , IMO
Maybe after downgrading AMET, ..... these boys were serious !!

Can they do something about the windshield cleaners.....Santiago got rid of them...
I drive the Malecon route through Puerta Plata to specifically avoid the heavy moto and car traffic and windshield washers. Not an option if you need to get something in the middle of town. If I need anything I tend to use La Sirena or Jose Luis. I can easily access them from the Malecon.

Mentioned by the head of the Country's insurance -- seen as a problem

Maybe - just maybe --- a fix will come

Todays DR1 News
Mota also shared the statistic that every year more than 25,000 youths are maimed as a consequence of traffic accidents, primarily those caused by motorcylists. He said traffic accidents are a tragedy and have a strong impact on the insurance industry.

"This is a disorder, a chaos, and I do not understand why the government doesn’t act to regulate motorcyclists. And by doing so, we could reduce crime and prevent that these 25,000 youth suffer life-changing injuries, "he said.

Mota said the grave situation on our nation’s roads forced Seguros Reservas to include physiotherapy in their coverage. He said the government has to pay on average RD$50 billion a year in medical care for accident victims in public hospitals.

there was a group of police officers near the Polideportivo on Luis Ginebra, pulling over Haitian motoconchos today, and asking for documents. anybody who did not have his paperwork was made to take the vest off and hand it over.
