Central Bank says travel was up 14.7% in March 2018
Central Bank governor Hector Valdez Albizu reported that incoming travel was up 14.7% in March 2018. This means 128,714 non-resident visits, more than double, or 110%, compared to March 2017. The first quarter of the year posted average growth of 7.7%.

Google Maps makes travel in DR easier
Google Maps is offering traffic updates for those driving in the Dominican Republic, Waze app-style. The apps are very handy for traveling in the country and in the congested cities. The service is available 24/7.

Map tiles, geocoding, traffic layer, driving directions, walking directions are part of the online service, but has yet to including biking directions and speed limits.

Latin Grammy winning Vicente García coming for Jaragua show
Latin Grammy award winner, Dominican Vicente García will be in Santo Domingo on Saturday, 21 April 2018 and Sunday, 22 April 2018 for performances at 9pm, at the Salón La Fiesta of the Jaragua Renaissance Hotel. The performances are part of García’s “A La Mar Tour 2018” that his taking him to cities in the United States, Europe and Latin America. Tickets are for sale online at Ticketexpress for RD$1,800, RD$2,200 and RD$2,800 + RD$150 online charge.


Willie Colón concert celebrates his 50 years singing salsa
Saturday, 21 July 2018 is the date for the concert to celebrate the 50 years of salsa singing legend Willie Colón. His “50th Anniversary” concert is booked for the Teatro La Fiesta of the Jaragua Renaissance Hotel at 10pm. Tickets run from RD$3,800 to RD$20,000 plus RD$150 charge for purchasing online at Ticketexpress. Tickets are also for sale at the box office of the Jaragua and at Studio Theater at Acropolis Center, second floor.

“The King of Salsa” is coming with an elite eight musician New York music group. He promises to play his greatest hits, including “Gitana,” “Talento de television,”"Oh! qué será?", "Día de suerte", "Sin poderte hablar", "Plástico", "Idilio", "Pedro navaja" and "El gran varón".


Christmas and New Year’s cruise on the Norwegian Gem
Norwegian Cruise Line’s Norwegian Gem, with a capacity for 2,300 passengers, has programmed a stopover in Punta Cana (Cap Cana) as the last stop in its Christmas and New York 14-day cruise for 2018-2019. The ship has a 1,115-seat theater – featuring Second City and Broadway-esque productions. This in addition to 13 bars and a dozen restaurants.

The cruise starts in New York City and then makes stops in San Juan (Puerto Rico); St. Thomas (US Virgin Islands), Philipsburg ( St. Martín); St. John (Antigua); Bridgetown (Barbados);Castries (St. Lucía); Basseterre (St. Kitts); Tórtola (British Virgin Islands); Punta Cana (Cap Cana, Dominican Republic) prior to returning to the home port in New York City.

The Norwegian Gem offers the 14-day cruise costs in interior cabins for US$2,199, RD$2,729 sea view cabin, RD$3,479 with balcony to deluxe suites ranging from RD$4,079 to US$11,779.
Departures are Saturday, 21 December 2019 and arrival Saturday, 4 January 2020.
