Hi everyone,
Someone told me that the extension of the cedula now costs 4,000 pesos a person, can this be correct?

If you are a citizen it is free. Are you talking about Residency?

if by "extension" you mean "renewal" then i believe it's 4k pesos if you renew for 4 years.

A citizen renews every 10 years with no charge. Give your old Cedula in and get a new one. Go for citizenship and you will avoid all these constant changes and charges................................

I would, if they didn't have constant changes on the requirements for doing so.

It's been 4000 pesos as far as I remember. But I have had cedula only for the past 5 years .... renewed and paid annually.

Another new rule. If you change from resident to citizen you now have to pay for your first citizen's cedula - another RD$3,000. Free after that though - at the moment.

I renewed last week. 1000 pesos per year of renewal if you have permanent residency. 3000 pesos if you are on a temporary residency. Free if you are a citizen of the DR.

Someone told me that you have to have 18 months remaining on your passport when you apply to renew your cedula or residency. Does anyone know if this is correct, please?

This is what it says on the Migracion website PASAPORTE Y FOTOCOPIA DE LA PÁGINA PRINCIPAL ESTE,

CON DIECIOCHO (18) MESES MÍNIMOS DE VIGENCIA. LA DGM ES FLEXIBLE CON EL TEMA Y CONSIDERARÁ, EN CADA CASO, LA REALIDAD DE CADA PAÍS Y EL RIGOR DE SUS NORMAS EN LA EXPEDICIÓN DE LOS PASAPORTES.

In my experience they are indeed flexible on this.

18 months at the time of initial application for residency, six months at each subsequent renewal.
