But not one person on day 31 of a 30 day tourist card was detained. Or is it day 61 of the new 60 day card?

For those who don't understand the Haitians situation in the DR, the vast majority of Haitians in the DR are considered by the DR government to be here illegally. There are deportations constantly. That is why it is DR news. All the time.

Tourists cards are good for 30 days. You are legal for 30 days. If you stay up to 60 days and pay the exit fine, the rumor is no repercussions.

If you stay over 60 days on a tourist card, when you leave you pay the proper exit fine, but there are rumors of changes so people can stay up to 4 months and also some talk about potential issues when trying to re-enter the DR if you overstay past 60 days. Issues like being denied re-entry, perhaps for a year. Nothing yet to show any sharp change in government policy other than a few discussions by people with personal experiences they have reported which other people deny ever happened, since those that deny think it is simply a scheme cooked up by immigration lawyers to scare people into getting residency. How to handle the Haitians is the priority and it bungles up those in the government who cannot walk and chew gum at the same time to deal with coming up with a Snowbird Visa, since a Snowbird Visa is a low priority. That's my take on it.
