Try with Kayak, I just checked JFK - SDQ from Jul18 till July 29 for 595.00 With Jetblue
Yes, my south Florida to SDQ this month was highest in 5 years. The 3 carriers are probably conspiring plus higher oil prices.
Thats urban story, have to keep tracking at least 3 months before, to catch offers, check Kayak, I found regular prices with Jetblue.
I follow some site that gives tips... and I know for sure after just booking that midweek is cheaper.

I found it that most of the time flying out on friday can be more expensive, also when you search for exact days brings you more expensive prices, if you search for flexible dates can get better prices
