How does a Dominican woman who got married abroad to a foreigner have to proceed to have her new marital status (married) registered abroad recorded in the registries of her country of origin ? Upon legalization of the marriage certificate and its translation into Spanish by the DR consulate in the country where the wedding took place to what authority she has to address herself to have the marriage recorded with the civil registry office in the DR ?

Your wife should be able to go to the Oficial?a de Estado Civil of her domicile and simply have her marriage recorded with a certified copy of her foreign marriage, duly authenticated and translated into Spanish.

Art. 55, Parr. 15) of Law #659 of 1944 states the following:

"Within three months after the return of the Dominican spouse to his/her homeland, the foreign marriage will be recorded at the public registry for marriages of his/her domicile"

(?n el t?rmino de tres meses despu?s del regreso del c?nyuge dominicano a su patria, el acta de celebraci?n del matrimonio contra?do en el pa?s extranjero, se transcribir? en el registro p?blico de matrimonio de su domicilio")

If the local Oficial?a doesn't know what to do (not an unusual occurrence) or refuses to do anything, then a petition should be filed with their superior, the Junta Central Electoral in Santo Domingo.
