Samana occupancy now?

Would anyone in the know care to estimate the occupancy level now in the Samana Region?

Also I would be interested to know what percentage of total hotel/condo rooms are closed indefinitely. In other words, would the occupancy numbers be based on a smaller total number of available rooms?

Can't give you any statistics, but I was in Samana last week for 4 days. I have never seen it so devoid of tourists. The restaurants, hotels, gift shops (that are open) are hurting for lack of business.

Officially hotel occupancy is off 50 to 55%. Realistically it's much worse than that. My clients tell me of occupancy levels below 30% and general business off 70%. The peninsula is virtually deserted. Although our own hotel occupancy has only been off about 10% from last year, our restaurant is off 70% or more, reflecting the low occupancy rates of local hotels.
The only bright spot: one hotel client in Las Terrenas is reporting a strong surge for July and is almost full.
