I am an Officer in the U.S. Navy and recently had the incredibly good fortune to visit Santo Domingo aboard my ship. While I was visiting, I met the most beautiful woman with the most amazing smile & I HAVE to find her. We met Tuesday evening the 13th of August 2002 at the Montecristo Cafe (Plaza Concordia, Ave. Abraham Lincoln). I don't have her last name or a phone number but I absolutely have to find her. Her name is Adrienne and she is 22 years old. At the tender age of 30 myself, I'm not prone to going ga-ga over a woman -- there was just something about her. I haven't a clue how to track her down other than maybe a classified ad in the personals section (provided the Santo Domingo newspaper has personals). If anyone has any ideas how I might find this beautiful Angel, please let me know.

The night was absolutely perfect and I only wish I could leave it at that and walk away. Being your average thick skulled guy, I have to know if there is something more. I appreciate any and all advice anyone might give me. Thank you in advance.

Cheers,
A lovestruck Naval Officer

Mercy?

I do not ask for mercy, only help. For those that do not wish to help, c'est la vie. For those that do, my sincerest thanks.

I can't believe this is a serious request. But if it is, be forewarned you are not going to get the information that you after on this board. It is not uncommon to get requests--usually from girls with stars in their eyes--for help in finding that handsome guy or beautiful girl that they saw/met while in the Dominican Republic. Such requests yield a lot of responses, but without help or sympathy for the lovesick person who made the request.

But don't be too concerned. Santo Domingo is full of "beautiful women with the most amazing smile." As a navy officer on a ship, you've no doubt had the opportunity to visit many countries. For sure you have noticed that the people in some countries are better looking than those in others. The DR is blessed in this respect, the people are handsome. Especially the women.

With respect to Adrienne, why didn't you find out her name and phone number if she made such an impression on you? The fact you didn't shoots holes in the image that I had of young naval officers.

I'm a knucklehead.....

Ah, directly to the heart of the matter. I have been on active duty for 14 years and hit ports all over the world and never has any woman managed to affect me like this. There was something about her I just cannot put into words. I do not ask for sympathy, only ideas. If someone has a constructive thought as to what I might do, it takes merely a minute or so to type a response. And I agree that the Dominican Republic is certainly blessed with more than it's fair share of beautiful women.

As for your image of young Naval Officers, we are not always suave and debonair. My only defense is that I completely blew it. Our goodbye was somewhat hurried by her friends and we had made plans to have lunch on my ship the following day. It was my intention to get her last name, number and address at that time. I waited during lunch but she never showed. Later, I would realize my mistake. I made the mistake of only notifying the American security personnel she would be coming and not the local security. I was told that many people had been turned away at the gate before reaching the American security checkpoint.

Of course this does not prove she even showed up but I would certainly like to believe she did. Just because I'm not suave & debonair doesn't mean I have no ego. ;)

Anyway, in a nutshell it comes down to one issue. I am a knucklehead. :)

you should have got her name and phone number and Ken is right you will get a lot of suggestions but likely no help.

You know that stuff will draw you further than a howitzer will blow you.

Beauty is in the mind.

If you are still in the DR, NavyO, you might consider going back to the cafe where you met here. With luck, she'll be there again or perhaps you will recognize someone who was with her. If you are no longer in the DR, I really don't think there is much you can do other than kicking yourself for not getting her name and phone number when you had the opportunity.

One thing that I wouldn't do is put an ad in the newspaper. You will get a tremendous number of responses from "Adriennes" eager to hook an American who will get them out of the DR (many of whom are likely to be very good looking).

Unfortunately, the day we were to have lunch was the last day in port and I could not leave the ship (standing duty). So, yes I have been doing quite a bit of self-kicking the past 3 days.

As for the possibility of a newspaper ad, I also thought a strong likelihood of multiple responses. Which is why I keep most of the discussion between Adrienne and myself to myself. There are things that no one else would know regarding our conversations that would easily identify her.

Interestingly enough, her beauty was only a small part of it. Her smile, personality and that certain je nes se qua <SP> made it complete.

Since I have 5 more months at sea before returning to my home port without another visit to the Dominican Republic, I still have plenty of kicking time left. I think now virtually every facet of my colossal idiocy has been layed bare. :) At least let it be a fable of sorts. I honestly wish no one else to make such a mistake.

I will find her though. Maybe a vacation to the DR upon my return home in January might be in order.

If she still has the same hold on you in January, I'm sure you'll be back. Let us know how the story ends.

Good luck, NavyO

Don't wast your time !

But first, how can you be 30 years old with 14 years on active duty? Were you 16 years old when you went on active duty? I am "retired" from the US Navy.I was an enlisted man.I was in the Navy when;"The Ships were made of wood, and the men were made of Iron"! You can't be a Line Officer! You must be a supply Officer! 30 years old and you can't get the job done!Forget about this girl. You are probably a victim of "Culture Difference"!Dominican women are "nice" and smile and talk to men, even when they think you are a "jerk"!American girls don't give you the time of day if you aren't great looking, and drive a BMW!The girls at "Trios" fall into two MAIN groups, one, poor but great looking, who are looking for a guy to give them lots of money, and two rich, hanging out with their rich friends, who want nothing to do with an American Sailor. So don't waste your time, you don't want either type. She never went to your ship, she was just being nice.If she liked you you could have taken her to a Motel on the spot!Well, maybe not you! Anyone with 14 years in the Navy can get the job done right!CRISCO

I joined two weeks past my 17th birthday. I actually hit 14 years in another month and a half -- close enough now that I don't quibble. I started out as an E-1 and earned a commission as an Unrestricted Line Officer.

Yes, I know I botched it and I also know of the 'culture difference' to which you refer. If I could chalk it up to that in my own mind I wouldn't be trying to track her down. Also, the long kiss good night was, in my humble opinion, enough to show she wasn't just being nice. Of course that could be my ego again! ;)

As for getting a Hotel, liberty was set to expire about 30 minutes after our good bye. This is a different Navy now -- even vastly different from when I joined. Gone are the days when the khaki made the rules and did as they wished. Most XO's & Department Heads consider it their duty to be babysitters and treat everyone else like children. The prevalent mind set is that they will advance as long as nothing happens while they're in charge. We already have an Officer on class charlie liberty because he was 5 minutes late getting back. I would prefer not to spend the deployment in lock-down.

CRISCO, what brought you to the DR for retirement? I can definitely imagine hanging my hat there one day but prior to my visit it was just a place on the map and something covered briefly in history and geography classes. Also, is Trios a club or bar? If I remember correctly, during our inchop brief that name was one of the clubs labeled off-limits. Or are you using Trios in a local context I don't understand?

Made one mistake & still trying to get a clue.

Mondongo, I may just take you up on that offer. The only place to start was where it all started -- a Tuesday night at the Montecristo Cafe

My sincerest thanks to all of you & I will drop a line to let you know what happens. Of course now that I've found this forum I'll be dropping in to learn about other things as well.

When I read this first post I was thinking: "WTF??!! Which of our finny regulars is this? CCC? Maybe ol'GOLO, funnin'with us? Or one of the Girls, like a Jane J or maybe MusicQueen.?"

If and it is a BIG if, this is a serious request, I think that we could send an expedition of studs to Montecristo and check out Adriennes one and all. I would like to see AZB, Golo and one of the others, maybe Cleef, on the hunt for Adirenne.

Well HB, after Mickey's initial response, I must admit, I was a bit concerned. But if honesty and sincerity will not convince, there is little left. Of course, I'm not entirely certain the wheels I've set in motion. That, in and of itself, may be cause for concern.

I find it mildly amusing you think you're being charitable or merciful. This "putz" has been online for the last 18 years and even back in the days of the BBS and in the old newsgroups, folks would always do their best to help. As stated in my very first reply to Mickey:

I do not ask for mercy, only help. For those that do not wish to help, c'est la vie. For those that do, my sincerest thanks.

I asked for advice and many here have been extremely kind in responding and they have my sincerest thanks.

Unfortunately, I missed the wrong boat. Had it been the other way 'round, I'd still be in the DR with maybe a chance of finding Adrienne.

Cheers,
NavyO

What brings your ship (What ship is it, it IS NOT classified to post ship movements unless you are on a 688, Trident or CV) to the DR? What is your rating? Who are you attached to?

Some very strange remarks you ave made, maybe you would receive better answers if you were a liitle more "up front"

I go back to the old days of Bbs's. Do you remember Joe's Bar and Grill? One of the biggest pirate boards in the US at the time. Late 80's I believe until the early 90's sometime.

Man those were fun days, you would have gotten your head handed to you for this post there as well btw. Anything but a computer question and you were toast.

NR, we were sent to the DR to do a port assessment (pier services & the like). Evidently the last U.S. Navy ship to visit was sometime in '94. As for my 'rate/rating', I'm no longer enlisted I am an Unrestricted Line Officer. And posting ships movements is classified for all ships. It's just a higher classification for the submarine community & the carrier's. WRT being more up front. I don't see what I've missed in my posts. They give the entire situation and plenty of info.

Jazz, I never logged into Joe's Bar & Grill, there were a few large ones that I frequented. Bat Cave, Flight Line....I still remember my parents cringing over the phone bills. ;) As for anything other than computer questions, as long as you put your query in the right section usually no one flame you. It was the idiots who cross posted to every section that got beat up religiously.

Cheers!

EVERY Naval Officer has a rating, rather you are a MM, NFO, BW etc. I didn't ask for your rank

You don't talk the talk very well
