Caribbean Star Airlines/Caribbean Sun Airlines planning fly to Santo Domingo

Startup carrier Caribbean Sun is looking to launch service from its San Juan hub in early December. Planned destinations are Tortola, Antigua, St Maarten and St Kitts. Santo Domingo is also being seriously looked at, but a decision has not been made as to whether this airline or Caribbean Star (from Antigua) will serve this destination. Kingston and Havana are also under consideration.

The airline will operate a fleet of 37-seat DASH 8s

It is intended that Caribbean Sun will serve the northern Caribbean and will be a complementary carrier to Caribbean Star, which serves the northern and eastern Caribbean. The two airlines will have integrated schedules.

History Set up in Florida in late 2002 by R Allen Stanford, owner of Caribbean Star, to operate services from San Juan. It is a sister airline to Caribbean Star.

R. Allen Stanford, Chairman of Stanford Financial Group to be Honored in Washington,

R. Allen Stanford, Chairman of the Stanford Financial Group to be Honored at the Organization of American States

Contact: Ramon Zertuche of the Inter-American Economic Council, 202-548-0400; Web: http://www.inter-american.org

WASHINGTON, Oct. 24 /U.S. Newswire/ -- The Inter-American Economic Council (IAEC) announced that it has selected Mr. R. Allen Stanford as the 2006 recipient of the Excellence in Leadership Award. The award will be presented to Mr. Stanford at the headquarters of the Organization of American States (OAS) in Washington, D.C. on Feb. 9, 2006.

In announcing the council's decision to honor the chairman of the Stanford Financial Group of Companies, President of the IAEC Barry Featherman said: "We admire and acknowledge Allen's entrepreneurial achievements and generosity in promoting and indeed, expanding economic and social development opportunities throughout the Caribbean region and Latin America."

As chairman of the Houston and Miami-based Stanford Financial Group of companies, Stanford leads a global wealth management and financial services organization with offices spanning across North America, Latin America, Europe and the Caribbean. Stanford companies operate in relation with more than 50,000 clients from 91 countries. Based on the founding mission, all Stanford companies strive to be active supporters of important causes in their respective countries and greater communities.

For more than 20 years, Stanford has flourished among the leading investors in the Eastern Caribbean. He recently launched the $1.8 billion Stanford Caribbean Investment Fund, which is allocated for upscale development projects aimed at the tourism sector. He also recently announced a US$28 million contribution to cricket in the Caribbean.

"During his career Allen Stanford has consistently sought to create an environment where business and government can work together in meaningful ways for the betterment of society. We are truly impressed by the display of perseverance and creativity that has become the hallmark of Allen's lifework and vision for the future. As a bottom line, Allen is one of those rare leaders who puts his money where his mouth is," said Council President Barry Featherman.

Mr. Stanford has strongly supported the work that the IAEC is doing in Latin America and the Caribbean. Most recently, the council hosted the fourth Annual Business and Investment Roundtable on June 4 in Fort Lauderdale, on the occasion of the 35th Regular Session of the OAS General Assembly. Mr. Stanford introduced Jeb Bush, governor of Florida, and participated in a session on "Strengthening the Relationship between the US and the Caribbean Basin." Inaugurating the Fourth OAS Business Roundtable was Jose Miguel Insulza, secretary general of the OAS, numerous foreign affairs ministers from the Caribbean and Latin America, members of the Congressional Caribbean Caucus as well as several leading members of the business community.

About the Council

Founded in 1999 by leaders of the OAS and private sector, the IAEC has provided an ideal vehicle for co-operation to address critical economic and trade issues throughout the continent with an emphasis on the Caribbean Basin. Since its founding, the council has strived to make a fundamental difference in the lives of people throughout Latin America and the Caribbean. The First OAS Private Sector Forum was held in 2002 under the auspices of the Government Barbados and in successive years the forums have been held in Chile, Ecuador and the United States.

I agree with you pal! I can't believe that we have the same opinion and point of view! It's really a shame that we can't have you as director JAC (Dom. Rep.) or maybe managing an airline like AA. It would be great to have somebody who's ability in the aviation field it's well known, plus all that experience would increase the credibitly in any Dominican airline. I dream of all those cheap/unknown airlines going bankrupt and a new Domicana de Aviacion directed by ricktoronto!

We flew Caribean Sun in October round trip form sju to stt. We found them to be very bad at staying on schedule. Not very good if you are using them to meet a connecting flight. Also because the planes are so small you are only allowed one 50 piece bage of luggage per person. Not very good for someone travelling for a full week. Also you were only allowed one very small carry on, as there is very little overhead space.
