WASHINGTON, Oct. 24 /U.S. Newswire/ -- The Inter-American Economic Council (IAEC) announced that it has selected Mr. R. Allen Stanford as the 2006 recipient of the Excellence in Leadership Award. The award will be presented to Mr. Stanford at the headquarters of the Organization of American States (OAS) in Washington, D.C. on Feb. 9, 2006.
In announcing the council's decision to honor the chairman of the Stanford Financial Group of Companies, President of the IAEC Barry Featherman said: "We admire and acknowledge Allen's entrepreneurial achievements and generosity in promoting and indeed, expanding economic and social development opportunities throughout the Caribbean region and Latin America."

Mr. Stanford introduced Jeb Bush, governor of Florida, and participated in a session on "Strengthening the Relationship between the US and the Caribbean Basin." Inaugurating the Fourth OAS Business Roundtable was Jose Miguel Insulza, secretary general of the OAS, numerous foreign affairs ministers from the Caribbean and Latin America, members of the Congressional Caribbean Caucus as well as several leading members of the business community.
